What to do with these grain spawns
    #25857658 - 03/07/19 07:59 AM (2 years, 1 month ago)

It's has been 1,5 months since I inoculated 4 sterilized grain jars of 550 ml. It was my first time so I injected 20 ml into these 4 jars which I now understand was a stupid thing to do. I have got 4 different results. One didn't even colonize and here's the three others:

1.
This one stopped colonizing some weeks ago and the grains on top are really dry.

2.
This one colonized really weird, some part has not been colonized and the mycelium just grew around that part leaving dark border around it. It also has some very pale yellow spots which I suspect is bacteria.

3.
This one is almost fully colonized and looks nice. Except a very little on top where I can see some half colonized and really dry grains.

All 3 jars also have a little bit of water around the spawn at the bottom.

Should I just remove the uncolonized parts and fruit them all together? Have anyone any experience with something like jar nr 2?

Number 2 is garbage, there is no saving it. Number 1 is too. Number 3, I'd probably spawn and hope for the best

Why are they garbage? I can see a lot of fully colonized grains?

Because they are obviously contaminated. Look at the huge disgusting brown spot. Your growing a lot of other shit in that jar too.

2 is garbage cuz there's a shit load of brown mold in it, u can't see that?..

And 1 might not be garbage, u should shake it and see if it'll finish colonizing. It's slightly bacterial, but I think ur right about the top grains being dry.

With jar 1, u could also just open it and pour off all the uncolonized grains. Only use the colonized part for spawn and hope for the best.

I didn't even look at 3 cuz he said it was fine.

But it doesn't look like mold to me actually. Mold would grow right? This one has just been a part which the mycelium grew around for some reason. It's getting whiter and whiter everyday, but very slow progress.

Dude it's definitely fucking mold. It's a big brown splotch of mold dude. Mycelium can grow over mold but it's still there. THROW OUT JAR #2. U asked for advice and that's the only advice ur ever gonna get on that jar. It's trash. It is 100% brown mold without a doubt.

Not trying to be a jerk dude but how does that NOT look like mold to U? Cubensis mycelium never turns brown like that.

I watched the mycelium just grow around that part and I can find nothing about brown mold. That's why I'm confused when you say it's brown mold.

Are you tryn to grow brown slime? No, then just throw it away.

Shake your other two jars, and if they don't recover in 48 hours, they are garbage too. I'm not hopefully for number 1, but I think you might be able to get something out of 3

Why are u confused? It's BROWN AND MOLD. of course mycelium grew around it. Just just throw that jar out dude.

But again, jar 1 I would remove the uncolonized grain and spawn the colonized part. And jar 3 Johnny said was fine so I didn't even look. But make sure u throw out jar 2, if u care about ur health and spreading mold spores in ur grow area.

I think you are over exaggerating a bit. I just opened the jar and cut it a little with a knife it smells like normal mycelium. I would probably sense it if it was not good for my health and since it has not even been growing inside the jar, I'm not worried about my growing area spreading this contamination all over it.
I will make a coir substrate now for it's size and add it to the grains in a separate container. Let's see what will happen.

:imout:

Dude. I'm not over exaggerating anything. All that mold has spores and is now in the air in ur house. It MIGHT not be dangerous to ur health, but I'm sure u know there's health risks from breathing in mold. But do u broski, post the pic of that jar in the cultivation pics of the day thread. See what everyone on there says.
