@shaperdreaming
I know ppl generally dislike heat mats here but so far they have kept my closet quite a bit warmer than the surrounding rt. You could add a thermostat / temp controller. Just got to keep some distance between the mat and the substrate

The towel also makes for less temperature difference between air and substrate. At least it's a relatively cheap and a safe option.

Congrats with your new place. I'm sure you'll make it fit to cater your needs!

Make any mistakes on weighing? Like leave out some printing caps from ww and forgot to acct for them after drying? Bad math?

I find that shrooms tend to be between 88% (my best) and 94% (fuck that batch of GTs). I'd be pretty excited for 85%~, and assume it's correct if my dehydrator was working and they snapped cracker dry.

Oh! Hey! I have a bunch of these actually (well 2 big ones). Those do enough to heat a small space? Interesting. I would feel much safer with these as I've left them on for ages before, and they can go back to seedling warmers when the temps warm up. So these heat pads plus like THIS will do the trick? (Yes, I will need the humidity one for my marthas I'm building, so may as well get it all).

Yeah, my average is 92%~ This one box of mostly PE blobs I hit 88% some how. I was shocked and awed.

Lurker, it's not that for sure.  I wish it was that clear to me what's going on, I really do.

I thought the same thing about not being dehydrated enough but they snap cracker dry even after 2-3 weeks in a jar (they're usually gone by the third week).  I put one dehydrated for 18 hours in a shitty plastic bag (it did seal closed though) and 5 days later it still snapped at the chubby base of it and appeared cracker dry AF.  I've even run them for 8-12ish hours back through the dehydrator again after their first 18-24 hour dehydration to make sure the weight was proper and it always came out the same weight i put them in.  I always get 92-93% water weight fruits with any other variety so this is totally new.

Edit: my dehydrator is also one of those Dehydros that I assume hits around 165*f.  It gets really hot..

this is making me think I'm the only person who only checks dry weight... every mushroom has a different water content  I wouldn't worry about it

I've never weighed out my wet fruit.
Honestly I don't even weigh my dried fruit until I eat it.. unless its a real big fish.

Cubes won't digest wood or paper, no matter how well ground up.  It can be used as a casing layer, and the mycelium will crawl up onto it and fruit, but the food source is the substrate within. Coir is very different from paper or wood. In the case below, the substrate was grains.  There may have been some manure tossed into the hollowed out middle too, but I don't remember. Crap, hard to believe that was 20 years ago.

What do you think perfect field capacity of a brick of coir is? 3 quarts? 4 quarts? What is your perfect amount without having to add or subtract any water?

I'm at 2.75 L per 650 g brick of eco earth. Even 3 L comes out sopping wet. BeefSupreme had a thread about this a bit ago

Has anyone ever had shrooms that ended up only losing a total of ~85% water weight?  I have some PESA that I am paranoid about not being fully dried but I dehydrate them 18-24 hours (almost always closer to 24 hours) and I will have 160g wet turn into like 23g dry.  Not that I'm necessarily complaining, I am just kinda confused as I've never seen this before with regular ass cubes.  Normally my shrooms are like 92% water so this is really different.

Actually, the batch I dried last night did the same thing. I was definitely surprised. Keeping them separate for now just in case they weren't completely dry.

The fact that today’s my first day posting in these boards again after a year, and the fact that RR posted today (forgive my ignorance but I feel as though you weren’t as active when I was a “regular” so I don’t think I saw ever an original post by the man whose videos got me started) makes my insides tingle a bit...

Can I assume you; or someone you know; is responsible for the picture of Alice in Wonderland with the little mushies growing on on it that EVERY single person sends me when they realize I like the fruits? Either way I’m very interested in trying this out...

I keep seeing that photo with the caption "this book was water damaged and mushrooms spores germinated on it" I can't hold myself back from speaking the truth that that is impossible

For what it's worth: I'm very happy with our heat mats' performance, atm even without temperature control (budget is failing for now)

Just have thermometers both just above the mat and at substrate level. Even that way it works fine. Nights still get way too cold over here too.

Hope you can reuse your mats! Good luck amd keep us posted!

Ohhh man this is what I was looking for. I live in New England and it's cold so I have a couple 10x20 vivosun seedling mats with thermometers to help with the cold. Stays at about 66° in the house. Got 54 quart sterlite tubs and I'm sure you know they are bigger than 10x20. Would those size mats still work to keep everything up to temp? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Trying out my first bulk grow from g2g.
