Lost control of my poi, destroyed 6 year old bridgesii * 1

I make this post to lament the loss of one of my best two bridgesii cacti. I started the little tikes from seed some 6+ years ago. I beget my 6 daughters, raised them, and then killed one with my own hand while the others watched...:nonono:

Decided "hey I'll get back into poi today, that'll be fun." Soon enough a poi goes flying through the air in super slow motion, flashing various bright colors as it does, and strikes the cactus directly.

You'd think a soft rubbery poi ball would be a fairly forgiving material, but the whole damn cactus exploded open, also in slow motion. And her flesh wept, "why father," her milky eyes looking around without sight, stricken blind, confused, scared. I'll never forget the fear in her eyes.

:sigh: Hey cactus-crew, is there any damage control I can do? The soil was totally dry since its winter so I watered it just a touch to try to help it recover. I don't know a ton about cactus care though. I'm guessing best case scenario the whole top is just going to rot and maybe the stump will survive. Should I just cut off the damaged part? There won't be much left besides roots if I do that.

Cinnamon asap  at the very least

If you cut it the areoles just below the cut sometimes wither away basically when the callus forms. You need one or more areoles to have a new pup

If you cut it and leave nearly only roots as you said, often the base of the plant below ground has many areoles to pup from which is often where roots are emerging and that’s where pups come from when they seem to just emerge from the soil I’m guessing unless I’m mistaken

thanks for addressing the qustions. The blow also totally uprooted the thing I forgot to mention so fingers crossed.

There would still be a decent amount of flush I image it could pup from if all it needs is areoles. Those are just the clumps of spines right?

Wtf is a poi?
I know a lot about cacti though. I’ve saved some gnarly wounded trichs.
I try to stick to using horticultural sulfur powder. But if it’s really bad I’ll apply fungicide. If need be I could send you what I use. It’s proven to be highly effective for horrible situations.

No not cinnamon water, apply dry cinnamon to all wounded areas or sulphur powder as suggested above

Thats awfully kind of you to offer. I'll try to figure it out on my own for the time being if you have recommendations. I think some of your phrasing about sulfur got lost, you say its bad to apply or..?

So the main thing is just to disinfect the wound in some way? I'm guessing thats what that guy mentioned cinnamon for. (thanks for clarifying raven)

dis be a poi boi. My ex was wayyy, wayyyy too into LED hoola hoops so I got them as a gift. I cannot for the life of me understand how people spin them like orbitals like the guy in this video.

It's like a fireball spun on a rubber band much like a fire spinner does staff, or dragon staff, or dual poi.

Thats why i always poi in open areas away from things i might hit. Just gotta cut the damaged parts and try to pup the surviving piece into a new cacti then the part u destroyed say a nice prayer and process it for a dose :shrug:

Sad stuff. Why did the poi go flying? Did it break or something?

No, no one ever said anything about disinfecting. We’re smelling troll like tendencies here, if you’d like good cacti info cool if you’d like to troll and try to push people’s buttons to get reactions like trolls do, well not so cool imo

Dry cinnamon or sulpher powder applied to any and all wounded areas. Do not apply ANY other senseless thoughts period. That’s your two options

Cinnamon or sulpher powder are the only so called disinfectants you should use.

I think we need to see pics also or it didn’t happen

Troll or no troll, that is the question.

Yeah I'd just take the lemons and make lemonade! Pup those fragment fuggers into a buncha new bridge clones. Just let the open wounds dry for a few days first.

Also def not a troll. Why would you troll about damaging nice cacti lol
