Regardless of what happens, this was my favorite week in politics since I don't know when, between the raid and Trump taking the 5th in NY.

I'm sure Enlil could clarify this but from what I've read, taking the 5th in a civil trial is different than taking the 5th in a criminal trial. In a criminal trial the jury is instructed to make no inference whatsoever from a defendant taking the 5th, but in a civil trial they may infer that a defendant may have done it to cover up wrongdoing.

Trump has a huge attraction to dictators/autocrats because he's envious of them getting to make their own rules. We'll find out soon if his inability to work within our system is going to have major consequences.

I almost think the establishment would make a deal to let him off if he just goes away, which might be a good deal for the country. But there are so many jurisdictions going after him that probably wont happen. So now we're going to have to accept the consequences that a little over a third of the country is enraged and supports him more than ever. It's not a permanent problem unless that crowd  shifts to somebody else, and Trumpism will continue with a different leader. The majority of the GOP wants Trump or a substitute Trump. I don't see the GOP returning to half moderates and half conservatives.

The FBI recovered 11 sets of classified documents from its search of Mar-a-Lago earlier this week, including some materials marked as "top secret/SCI," The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.  The newspaper reported that FBI agents removed about 20 boxes from former President Donald Trump's resort and residence in Palm Beach, Florida -- including binders, sets of classified government materials, photographs and at least one handwritten note.  Federal agents reportedly seized one set of "top secret/SCI" documents, the highest level of classification. Agents took four sets of "top secret" documents, three sets of "secret" documents and three sets of "confidential" documents, the lowest level of classification, the Journal reported.

Wow. Just fucking nuts. What happens from here will set a powerful precedent. Is it possible that a former president could be locked up in Federal prison? I like to think it should be possible, but I wonder what is going to happen. Will he be fined, and allowed to go on his marry way? I wonder.
