Did you guys miss the second part of the second sentence, right after the comma? Having a mental illness and being bullied all your life isn't exactly no trouble assimilating into society...American or not...is it?

That's exactly the issue nearly every time. Guns don't just shoot by themselves. A decision is made by a human to pull the trigger. It's a mental health issue. Most of these publicized mass shooters have been on psych meds and look like some kind of mind control victims or something.  We can fill pages of threads and comment on social media posts about whether or not he was a white terrorist or a Syrian extremist or whatever, but that's the big distraction. We'll stay divided talking about shit like that...or start asking whether this is when we should ban more guns. None of that does anything to address the real problem... or bring light to the fact similar types of things happen much more often than we hear about in places much more poor than Boulder. Shootings in poor parts of somewhere like Chicago don't generate the same feelings in most of the country, because most people are more desensitized to that somehow...but again...poverty is definitely a major contributing cause of mental health issues.

I'm not going to say I have any great solutions to all that, but I feel like that's where the real problem lies. People treat each other like shit and push them into a corner until they get provoked one day to lash out somehow. It's been happening for a while now all over the world. I am in no way condoning anyone's actions, but...seems like the vast majority of the time, that's part of the backstory or motive.

I'm starting to think that constantly being stressed out about money and income and rent while being bombarded with violent rhetoric and the constant demand to buy might not be the best for your mental health.

Mass shootings are in no way a distinctly US phenomenon. We might have more overall, but it's not just in the states. We just usually don't get the ones in other countries played on repeat in the media for days or weeks after they happen.

I agree about the economic stress, violence, and consumerism that seem to surround so many people worldwide not being good for anyone's mental health though. That coupled with the fact that cluster b personality disorders seem to be admired and encouraged for some reason...

Trump's former lawyer, Sidney Powell has released her defense strategy in the lawsuit from Dominion, the voting machine manufacturer. The argument is that no reasonable person would assume she was telling the truth, so her behavior is not legally actionable.

This defense worked wonderfully when Hustler Magazine publisher Larry Flynt was sued by Moral Majority leader Jerry Falwell for printing a piece saying Falwell lost his virginity to his mother in an outhouse. It was equally effective for Bill Maher when Donald Trump sued him for saying saying Trump's genetic heritage was the product of his mother having sex with a baboon. But those were just crude jokes, very funny ones for some of us. It's not going to work for Powell. In addition, it's very damning evidence in her pending disbarment hearing.

I have WLS, conservative talk radio, set on my alarm clock, because it's so disturbing I will get up right away to turn it off, but they occaisionally make sense. The other day they said Dominion is suing Powell for 1.3 billion dollars, but they will settle for whatever she's got.

Rudy Giuliani is facing the same lawsuit and a similar disbarment proceedings. As I said earlier, I don't think either one of them needs a law license to do what they do, but the financial hit will be tough. They can still make money as some sort of media clowns.

In other fun news, Michael Cohen, Trump's former and now disbarred lawyer, recently had his 8th meeting with the New York District Attorneys. How long before Rudy G joins him on the rat squad?

Dominion is going after Fox News as well. $1.6B. They are going for blood. I am confident Fox News will defend using the same methods.

Fox is going to get away with it by saying they’re broadcasting entertainment, and the courts wouldn’t dare set the precedent of ruling against that.

Powell and Guiliani though? They’re spent forces, they might lose their law licenses but Guiliani will write another book and make $10M more before he dies, and Powell will win some congressional seat with the backing of MAGA PAC.

Aw man you’ve caught the republicans in a hypocrisy. They’re done for now.

None of them care. Just like none of the liberals here care about Democrat hypocrisy. And you certainly can’t prosecute Fox News over their slogan, otherwise M&Ms would’ve been bankrupted by class action suits proving that they actually CAN melt in your hand.

Yes, Rush Limbaugh said more or less the same thing, that he was an entertainer and not held to journalistic standards of accuracy.

I'm not familiar with each case, but Dominion suffered real damages: loss of revenues, false allegations that they were controlled by a hostile foreign power, and intimidation and attacks on their employees. Since everything said about them is verifiably false, they should be getting some nice size awards from many different wack job critics.

She's not going to be a lawyer and will lose a lot of assets, but she will find new ways to make money because this sort of craziness appeals to many people who apparently like to give their money away. Her, Rudy and Trump will be on that grift from now on. That's why I like the idea of tying them up in court as long as possible.
