There is no potential for this impeachment to go any differently than the first one.  Without a conviction, it has no effect on his ability to run again.  It is purely symbolic at this point.

Trump will never get the republican nomination in 2024, and he can't possibly win on an independent ticket.

Point taken, yeah getting enough Republican senators on board for a 2/3 majority almost certainly won't happen.

Hopefully he won't get the nomination again but I think that is far from a guarantee. People were just as certain that he would never become president in the first place.

Fuck it, impeach h9m after inauguration. Introduce new articles every day. He doesn't have to be in office to be impeached, hell sometimes they impeach dead guys

I get that, but the republican party is seeing the effects of their first deal with the devil.  The way Trump torpedoed the GA runoff (and the senate majority) will not be soon forgotten.  I don't see the party allowing that to happen again with the same candidate.  In addition, Trump is going to fade much more quickly without his social media tools.  By 2024, it's unlikely that he will be able to muster the same level of support.

On top of all of that, there's a real question about trump's competency in 2024.  I don't see him getting more mentally sound over time....

Yeah, daily impeachment is a great use of resources when 3000 Americans are dying every day from a pandemic.

It takes a few minutes.
I'm not saying to ignore all other business or something.

Clearly you've never written up articles of impeachment or run a parliamentary proceeding.  Next time I have a plumbing problem, I'm going to tell the plumber, "it just takes a few minutes, you shouldn't charge me much."

Maybe a few minutes is hyperbole but If it were me, I would be having my staff draw up new articles to introduce every morning. Once Trumpy is out, the won't be as much political will to block it in the Senate

I don't see how that helps the nation move forward.  It seems like you're hell bent on keeping Trump in the news and in the minds of the populace.  It's not like there's ever going to be a 2/3 vote to convict Trump in the next two years.

I dunno. Kinda feels like the first impeachment. Unlikely to succeed.. but he should be impeached for it.

I agree with Enlil on this.  It's like the old saying that for every terrorist the US kills, two new ones are created who take their place.  The harder you fight them, the harder they'll fight back.

I am in a minority on the shroomery, as I frequently defend the opposing side when they have a point about something or when my side make believes something about them.  I also attack my side if I think they're wrong.  People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.

The better route to keep him out of office is a incitement of insurrection charge. Conviction would preclude him from holding federal office again. He really cannot be allowed to run again.

I think when he said there was election fraud with no evidence in public, that by itself is insurrection. As Enlil stated there's no way that the Senate will impeach him.

Let them impeach tomorrow, then take it up in the senate when all the important shit is done

I'm fine with that too but we can't let the guy get away after his failed beerhall putsch to come back again later, eligible to run.

I'm pretty sure that if articles are ratified, the Senate has to take them up as the first order of business, no?

Just think, you might be on the same page as the turtle.

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/12/us/mitch-mcconnell-trump-impeachment.html

Senator Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader, has told associates that he believes President Trump committed impeachable offenses and that he is pleased that Democrats are moving to impeach him, believing that it will make it easier to purge him from the party, according to people familiar with his thinking. The House is voting on Wednesday to formally charge Mr. Trump with inciting violence against the country.

“I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”

Honest question to Trump supporters: do you hold him accountable for losing both Senate seats in Georgia and creating a conservative nightmare? Both Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue had a lead right until Trump started talking about how rigged all the elections were and it led to their defeat
