Huh?

I am in a minority on the shroomery, as I frequently defend the opposing side when they have a point about something or when my side make believes something about them.  I also attack my side if I think they're wrong.  People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.

Ok, I think I found what you were talking about.

Basically, Trump and Pompeo want more freedom of speech on large public platforms, while their opponents say private companies, owned by billionaires, should be allowed to censor any content they like, especially anything that's anti-establishment.

After all, the more private companies can censor our speech, the freer we are.  Amirite Enlil?

Taking away our ability to do as we wish with our private property will make us less free .

Except no one censored trump. They just added a fact checker.

Interesting that trump is calling for more regulations for a private US company.
Guess repubs don't care about a free market anymore.

Agreed, but the Tweets weren't about the fact checker, they were about potential censorship.

I'm not thinking that in any meaningful way that they do.

The tweets were brought on by trumps outrage over twitter's fact checker being added
to all of trumps tweets concerning conspiracy etc.

He is just jumping on the alt-right censorship bandwagon because there is already
an established group there that will rally behind him.

Forcefully terminating an american business because you don't like what they say about you. 'Murica!

Truthfully though, and I don't have any social media but this place so my fight
in it is unbiased, we need to define social media platforms as being purely for
entertainment, or as a publisher of news content.

Also, interesting note is that essentially republicans and conservative voices are
calling for a form of "fairness doctrine" which they themselves terminated in
1987 because they felt it infringed on free speech. Now they claim the absence
of a fairness doctrine infringes on free speech. What a world, amIrite!?

Maybe.  But again, that's not what he tweeted about.

Did you read a different article?  Did Trump threaten to shut down Twitter because he doesn't like what they say about him?

Exactly.  I'm all for the 'fairness doctrine'.  Are Dems against it now?

the fact that propaganda is the only thing he's suggested regulating is a huge red flag

especially when amazon just had a national infomercial segment on the news

In the tweet he literally says "strongly regulate, or close them down."

If twitter is purely for entertainment, they can censor whatever content they don't
want on their platform. I don't necessarily agree with everything they choose
to sensor but it isn't my business and twitter is free so

Jesus dude. He said he’d shut them down if he doesn’t get what he wants and you call that freedom of speech.

Probably. CNN would cease to be as it is as would fox, though.

But twitter can do what they want since they claim to be purely for entertainment
and not publishers of 3rd party news content, even though they are.

Yes they were about the fact checker. There’s another one that’s more specific, but these tweets started when Twitter started fact checking his tweets.

I understand.  It goes back to a prior discussion where the argument was the more we allow big corporations censor content, the more freedom of speech that means we have.  I think it's ridiculous, because it only means more free speech for the giant corporations and not the rest of us who use their products, but I get the argument.

Does it matter what he’s taking about? Shutting down a company because they censored speech is a violation of the first amendment.

Regardless, he is absolutely talking about them fact checking him

.@Twitter is now interfering in the 2020 Presidential Election. Twitter is completely stifling FREE SPEECH, and I, as President, will not allow it to happen!

Here is TODAY'S tweet from TODAY'S article:

"Republicans feel that social media platforms totally silence conservative voices.  We will strongly regulate, or close them down, before we can ever allow this to happen."
