Whatever Trump’s reasoning for these kinds of moves, they make Putin and Xi cream their pants every time.

Reasoning ? There doesn’t appear to be any . He just seems to react to shit he sees on the news . It’s obvious he stopped the taking the advice  of qualified people who’s  job it is to keep him informed a long time ago .

For starters, in mid January the WHO announced that there was “no clear evidence of human-to-human transmission of the novel coronavirus,” despite numerous reports to the contrary.  And they objected to Trump’s decision to impose travel restrictions on China, claiming it would “have the effect of increasing fear and stigma, with little public health benefit”.  They waited all the way to 11 Mar to declare COVID-19 a pandemic.

Who cares if they objected to the ban. Who cares when they declared it a pandemic. The WHO doesn’t make policy for the US and the word pandemic is irrelevant to the situation. We all knew what was going on weeks earlier.

The Who didn’t say anything. They simply reported information they were receiving from the field. There were reports of human to human transmission, and also that there was no clear evidence. Their job is to get information out. This is how science works.

Regardless within days everyone include the Chinese central government was warning the world it was contagious. It’s also worth pointing out that the a vast majority of our index cases were European, and had nothing to do with what was happening in China in January but what was happening in Europe in February.

Seriously. The US had more time to prepare, and we have still ended up fucked harder than any other country. 5% of the population and 35% of the cases. The only person in the world saying they had the virus under control in February was Donald Trump.

It’s almost as if the more a leader gaslights and misinforms, the more Falcon likes them.

1/3 of all US coronavirus cases are in New York.  Bill de Blasio didn't do a very good job there.

He shut down our own pandemic unit months ago. Now he's cutting off the WHO. He clearly wants to make sure we have no systems in place for the next time.

Yeah, and defunding the WHO is another one. Regardless of how good/poor the WHO's response has been, today is not the time to defund.  Maybe there are changes that are necessary.  Maybe the U.S. shouldn't ultimately be funding the WHO.  Maybe we need our own better system.  All of these issues can and should be addressed down the road.  Right now, we need every boot on the ground, and we've just alienated all of WHO's boots. 

Now is not the time to save a buck.  I'm really kinda surprised that you'd ever back this move during a crisis like this.

I'm not backing Trump on this.  I think it was a terrible move.

Edit:  My original point was that Trump did at least what the WHO recommended, but their recommendation came too late.

Not to mention that new York has upwards of 60 million visitors a year, of course new york ( the United states) got hit hard.
