Sounds to me like Rohrabacher thought he would be able to get Assange a pardon from Trump, but White House Chief of Staff John Kelly blocked Rohrabacher from doing so out of fear that 1) it might make Trump look sympathetic towards Russia  2) It would ruin the "Russia did it" story.

99.9% certain he is telling the truth - Assange most probably did ask him to make this statement on his behalf. I have no idea if Assnage is lying but a guy who smears the walls of the room he is living in with faeces has limited credibility in my eyes. Trump is a snake so possible he had some understanding with the H guy but zero proof of that has been reported or implied.

And if there's not a written statement, do we rely on Rohrabacher's word, who said he "would then call on President Trump to pardon him", or on Assange's lawyer's word, who said "he had been sent by the president to offer a pardon"?

When you think about it the story as presented has very little connection with Trump. Assange did what he did to get in trouble - nothing to do with T. Then the US went after him - still nothing to do with Trump. The extradition process was started under Obama. The H guy visited him a while ago but there is zero proof at this stage he was sent by Trump. So they ask Trump if he sent the H guy and he says no. This is the only direct, confirmed role he has played in the story - making a statement to deny any involvement. Most of it is just the media reporting on a desperate legal defence manoeuver made by a desperate guy in a desperate situation.

Trump just named one of his pals who has no national security experience as the Director of National Security. The position was created after 9/11 to coordinate activities and intelligence between various organs of national security, and it was specifically mandated that the director have extensive national security experience. But he's only going to do it for a short time, maybe three months, and he will keep his current job as Ambassador to Germany, so how important can this job be? I guess Trump made it a temp job.

So Bloomberg got mauled by a pack of chiwawas last night. If Mini Mike takes a hit in the polls the debate last night will only have one winner - Donald Trump. Looks more and more likely in November he will be facing his preferred contender so things are great for those practicing reason in the land of the free.

I am more and more thinking about the successsion in 2024 - GOP have to make sure Nikky Haley is ready for limelight in a few years.

I wonder why Bloomy didn’t deny the NDA’s. I mean, most NDA’s prohibit signers from admitting they signed, so no one could have proven otherwise, right? Did he just get caught off guard?

@Metoo, you know Trump said he was afraid Hilary would pick Bernie as a running mate in 2016, right? Pretty sure it’s not his preferred opponent.

This is completely irrelevant because this time round Trump is an incumbent, not candidate and and Bernie hopes to be president, not running mate

What I am saying is that, in the current situation, Trump would love to run against Bernie. We know it because he is actively propping Bernie by suggesting he is being fucked by the Dems establishment. Bernie was an ok emergency spare but by putting him behind the wheel I see a car driving off the cliff.

I imagine one reason Trump wants to have a crack at Bernie is that he will be able to unleash without offending the PC sensitivities of the electorate. Bullying women on stage is problematic and Pete is gay. In contrast, when Trump has a go at Bernie the perception will be of two old bucks locking horns - one entertaining, successful, relaxed and witty and the other even older, with no track record of achievements in real life, lightweight and ideologically possessed. Bernie will be fair game on stage in ways other candidates are not.
