creative solutions needed QUICK!
    #2584730 - 04/20/04 11:13 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

ok, a friend of mine was preparing a few brf jars and used all that was left of his vermeculite, forgetting to leave enough to put a dry layer on top before he puts his lids on....
...who thinks that it'll be ok with out? and he has a big bag of polyfill, who thinks that pinching off a handfull of polyfill and using that instead will be ok?

he needs to know quick because he wants to put these in the pot to sterilize before he goes to bed so that they will be cooled enough to noc up tomorrow morning...

thanks a ton

Haven't heard of anyone trying that, but it would serve the same purpose, so if you're in a rush, and in the mood for experimenting, go for it.

he's kinda in a rush, but he'd rather know if it was a terrible idea first.

Well the top layer is just a method to ensure no contams get in. you should be okay if you managed to keep the sides of the top part of jar pretty clean, and of course sterilize the shit out of em. not sure about the polyfill, it could either mess up the water level beeing in direct content with the substrate, but i dont know? i would say fuck it, throw em in the pot. unless this is like the last of your last print or your only syringe, then you sould throw em in the fridge and wait till tomoorow to get some verm, its not worth risking your only shot.

hmm its not the last shot but it will likely take over a week before i can get more verm.

i think he's going to try it (unless i get a definite no response here in like 10 mins), i dont see it messing with the water content because it will be on there pretty loose

Try it out.

The verm on top is meant to be a filter, it just so happens that pf tek uses verm.

You might have some problems making sure the polyfill completely stops up the jar opening, but other than that, it doesn't sound like a completely terrible idea.

I'f I were you, I'd pack the polyfill somewhat, not leave it too loose or airy. Make sure the inside lips of your jars are spotless before you put the polyfill in though.

if you shoot em up first thing, its just a matter of reachnig full colinazation before somethin creeps in. keep doulble layer aluminum foil lids on em before and after inoc.
