The NeverEnding Story.

--------------------

Ephesians 6:12
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Psalm 12:6
The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
Hebrews 11:3
Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
Revelation 3:11
Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Can't believe no one said that already.

Life is fucking surreal.

Any cluey embraces the psychedelic experience for promoting peace, showing empathy for the weak and feeling connection to people with different skin color. To name a few of these features us empathic human beings feel.

Fear and Loathing gives a dollarized view of psychedelics. This is what the masses experience on psychedelics. It's all about stupifying yourself embracing pretty colors for your eyes only. And of course having mindless sex. All the while planet Earth is falling apart. Maybe you like getting displaced as alpha male by Johnny Depp, repression and all that. Sheeple.

I'm sure you're more bright on other areas though, Jokeshopbeard.

I think you read too deeply into my post my brother.

I have just spent my life high, tripping, and doing extreme things, and the world I see around me is one I find so incredibly surreal - so back to front, inside out, and upside down - when it comes to values, that I feel the film suits perfectly.

It also happens to be my all time favourite film.

All the movies can inform personally some form of ourself and history.  No movie just sums it up as it would be painful and deluded.

My favorite series is a tie between The Next Generation and Voyager.

You mean the JJ abrams star trek movie? I think they are ok.

My fave star trek is probably TNG and then enterprise. I think enterprise is highly under rated.

LIG, which is your fave star trek movie and series?

it's a bit different for sure..

i think it resonates for those who don't want ST to be turned into 24 type show, non-stop ever increasing drama and tension...

it returns to more real characters and people-based story lines.

overall there's a uniqueness and realness to the characters i would say.  i didn't care for the doctor a ton at first but after time i liked her more.

Movie scare us to not form an identity with a character.  It's not so good to identify with aggressors in a movie.  Which makes a few good men and movies like that a challenge for society.

In rainbow camps some people call everything a movie.  Making dinner or doing dishes is a movie.  Lot's of people bring ugly things to these movies.  I like to think that the future is already spying on us, that we make it very far in evolution.

Ya gotta dream pretty big to think of those things.

You mean the JJ abrams star trek movie? I think they are ok.

My fave star trek is probably TNG and then enterprise. I think enterprise is highly under rated.

LIG, which is your fave star trek movie and series?

I agree completely about the Enterprise.

favorite series: orville  hehe...

well no i guess TNG and all...  then probably Into Darkness.

I love Tpaul, she is like one of my fave star trek characters ever.

I actually like the Orville a lot. I look forward to it every week. It's not always great but it's always entertaining. I think it will really hit its mark in season 3. Its a lot of fun sometimes as far as shows go.

overall there's a uniqueness and realness to the characters i would say.  i didn't care for the doctor a ton at first but after time i liked her more.

Oh yeah, Dr. Flox also became one of my favorite characters over time. I love that ENT carries the classic lineage of trek, but also feels unique. They just got a little far up their own ass with all the time travel, and the last season was way under cooked.

Now the movie that best describes my life would be ‘This is 40’

Oh! Who’s watching GoT final season? It starts April. I’ve already started watching it at season 7

Very true LC. An attitude like the one displayed above won't last long here.

Let it be seen that you are nothing. And in knowing that you are nothing... there is nothing to lose, there is nothing to gain. What can happen to you? Something can happen to the body, but it will either heal or it won't. What's the big deal? Let life knock you to bits. Let life take you apart. Let life destroy you. It will only destroy what you are not.

It's actually not. The movie uses vegas as a metaphore for America. It is shinny and loud And distracting. It operates on money and sequins and bravado. Just a block away though, there is a sad eyed middle aged woman with a knife scar on her throat, who spends her days serving pie to violent perverts who have been chased out of the strip. It uses the attitudes of 70's america to mock the naivete of the mainstraim. Thompson waxes nostalgically about "The essential decency of the white mans culture" then he goes on to categorically disprove the idea. Toby McGuire's character is also quite telling, a young idealist with a Mickey mouse t-shirt, out looking for the truth. When he finds it though, he runs off screaming into the desert.  It is a film about the decay of decadence, the death rattle of the American century. The police at one point in the film, mock anthropologists Margaret Meed, acusing her of a "private marijuana addiction", this is a reference to culture, it is meant to point out that you should be examining the movie and its events from a culturally critical stand point, the way an anthropologist does. The drugs is the movie are meant to represent the constant fading in and out of the American reality, a reality so surrounded by falsehoods and facades that it is impossible to recognize when you look for it. Early in the film Zeta has the radio on and it is talking about record high drug deaths of US soldiers in Vietnam, but he quickly xhanges the station to the song "one toke over the line", then he sings loudly while dumping cocaine onto his suitcase. He is burying the truth, trying to sing over it. It is an apocalyptic film, about riding the final wave of something, and riding ot as hard as you can because you're sure this is the end.

I'm sure it's very profound, just like love stories where some pretty woman finds a pretty man. Sure it looks good on the outside, but really what is in the inside? It's manipulation.

All art is manipulation. If art does not move the emotions and thoughts of the viewer then it is bland and meaningless. The movie isn't trying to trick people, it lays out its points pretty clearly. It has a lot of humor and showmanship, but it's supposed to be entertaining. People don't sit down to a movie because they want to be lectured at. Unless you're trying to make some dumb fucking illuminati bullshit conspiracy point. That shit is all stupid.

Manipulation as in giving a false impression of something.

Fear and Loathing pretends to lay a finger on America when all it really does is show two whacky people not giving a fuck about the status quo. Of course it's all intriguing when it's two hot men.

Pinkey, you are a pretty funny person.

They don't give a fuck about what's happening because they have accepted the decay and learned how to thrive in it. They make many references to the booming 1960's with its utopian sense of growth and achievement, but then they return to 71, to show that the balloon has popped. 1971 is an america on life support. Thompson goes on a long monologue toward the end of the movie where he directly lays out the flaws of the 1960's mindset. The idea that you can buy enlightenment on little pieces of paper, the idea that hope is enough on it's own to change the world, the idea that god is real. He is saying all this while standing in a destroyed vegas hotel room. The lush carpet flooded over with toilet water. The walls ripped apart or plastered with filth. The place used to be the definition of luxury but now its a garbage dump. He walks around investigating the place, trying to figure out where things went wrong.

Pinkerton, Calm a lama, very excellent posts!  Love the banter/discussion on the film. I never read ANY of that into the movie, bu then again I'm a sensationalist feeling type person that only delves deep into things other than politics and economics etc...

@jokeshop: I'm loving these newbies, pinkerton hits hard, but is showing some intelligence.

I'm a funny person because I see through the BS in Hollywood?

Hollywood can change things on a grand scale.

Instead they delude YOU into giving up. You said it yourself:

Quote:

They don't give a fuck about what's happening because they have accepted the decay and learned how to thrive in it.

Now tell me more about how wise you are at spitting half-assed intellectual reviews of movies, Lama. It looks so good on you. :smirk:

Two things about Fear and Loathing:

They use VERY good looking actors with lots of fame and fortune. Creating a huge gap between them and very ugly and misfortunate people. Guess who becomes the hero? VERY good looking people. And the antihero? Very ugly looking human beings. Do you not understand ugly looking childen gets bullied in school because of movies where very good looking people get world renowned fame?

Budget and income of Fear and Loathing increases the gap between very rich people and very poor human beings. The actors in FaL surely got huge publicity from this movie, this paved way for their Hollywood-careers.

I.e Johnny Depp starred in:
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011), budget: 410.6 million USD.

Somalia national budget (2017): 260 million USD.

Do you get it yet? Hollywood is a trick of light.

Isnt all fictional works of art "bullshit"? Fiction is made up, imagination. That's it intention.

I get the money argument. Like how can Hollywood pay all this money to make a movie when there are staving countries in Africa at war, suffering with povery? In that sense, Hollywood is very selfish with money.

I don't think you have a point. Johnny Depp's appearance is less than secondary, he is playing a real person in the movie, and he looks like that person very effectively. Del toro looks disgusting in the movie, he looks like a fat grease ball.

Who cares how much money Johnny Deep makes VS the GDP of somalia? If you're really concerned about wealth inequality you should probably take a look at corporate and military spending. Hollywood is nothing compared to the money those people throw around.

Hollywood movies are supposed to be fake, you are not supposed to think that those are real dinosaurs in Jurassic park, it is all fiction. Fiction is a deeply rooted part of human expression, it did not just appear out of nowhere. It's a form of communication that is as old as humanity.

I'm sorry that Johnny Depp's extreme attractiveness is impeding the growth of you vague global revolution. I'm sorry there aren't more movies with ugly people. I don't know what you want to hear pinkey. I don't understand what you're trying to say.

I would argue that movies and TV project values that are already popular. Nothing comes out of thin air, and art is supposed to be a reflection of its surroundings and its creators. But yeah art can be used to impart ideas and make points, that's why people make it for the most part

You thought I was a pretty funny person but now you don't think I have a point. See where this is heading?

Johnny Depp is playing Johnny Depp in the movie. I don't see Hunter S. Thompson. :stoned:

These are very good looking people:

And if the audience finds them ugly, it's only in this movie. We know what they look like off-screen. So is Johnny Depp playing a real person afterall?  :strokebeard:

Who cares how much money Johnny Deep makes VS the GDP of somalia? If you're really concerned about wealth inequality you should probably take a look at corporate and military spending. Hollywood is nothing compared to the money those people throw around.

He is a huge part of the problem. Johnny Depp is a powerful man, he can actively demonstrate and shout out against the madness in this world. But no, he indulges in it and profits off it.

Isn't Johnny Depp supposed to be a role model?

Hollywood movies are supposed to be fake, you are not supposed to think that those are real dinosaurs in Jurassic park, it is all fiction. Fiction is a deeply rooted part of human expression, it did not just appear out of nowhere. It's a form of communication that is as old as humanity.

So what you're saying is that this world should be more fake?

If not, then why do you watch it?

One day you might see through Hollywood as destructive tools to delude people, just so very rich people can indulge in ever-increasing power. Johnny Depp being one of them.

I'm sorry that Johnny Depp's extreme attractiveness is impeding the growth of you vague global revolution. I'm sorry there aren't more movies with ugly people. I don't know what you want to hear pinkey. I don't understand what you're trying to say.

The CGI on the show is pretty solid. Lots of practical effects also. I like the episodes with a sense of danger, too many episodes are relationship focused. I think once the characters are fleshed out a bit more the show will reach full speed. It always takes a few seasons for star trek shows to reach there stride and I think the orville follows that formula also.

You are a super funny person.

I think you're unsure of how to respond.

You're all like "Ha, Johnny Depp is sexy, so obviously he's responsible for the economic problems of Somalia".

Johnny Depp (alone) is responsible for the economic problems of Somalia?
