Temporarily and dramatically increasing FAE triggers mould structural changes and sporulation

I normally put tubs in fruiting conditions at 70ish% colonization.

Occasionally, good mycelium that hasn't fully colonized looks kinda wispy, and indistinguishable to my eyes from mould. Dramatically increasing FAE - with lid fully or partially off - for a few hours usually triggers any mould to change structurally and start sporulating.

This is a pattern that I've observed, and something I've used for the last few tubs that looked suspicious.  I have seen many reporting trich or similar only after putting their tubs into fruiting conditions.

Would this be something you agree with? Of course the number one prize is to use clean spawn, but sometimes tests (or the person testing) fail to identify competitor moulds.

Why do you have so much mold is the problem you should be investigating. It should be such a non issue that there is no reason to test.

I don't understand.

Are you saying the mold fruits when introduced to cube fruiting conditions?

Or are you saying fruiting is causing the mold?

what you are asking/stating is not clear.

How many times is the question "Is this mould or mycelium" asked? Some times it is difficult to answer that question. The answers generally are, "Wait and see". Instead of having to wait a week, mould responds very quickly to dramatic increases in FAE. Mycelium does not.

Yes, the degree is increased with a huge increase in FAE.

I disagree and find that mold grows like absolute bonkers when it is totally cut off from air. When I throw my used up big substrates out in big bags that are tied up the mold really goes to town, bags get hotter than a witches nipple, maybe spontaneously combust one day.

It's common to not see Trichoderma start sporulating until the substrate is placed in fruiting conditions. That's not always what happens but you're probably right that increasing the FAE early could cause obvious mold growth to appear on the surface earlier in some cases.
