    #2583629 - 04/20/04 05:34 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

None... the air stone gives you AIR. Perlite, geolite or lava gove you humidity.

It might. The perlite needs like an inch of water to work in the first place.

Would using an air stone lower the amount that the terrarium needs to be fanned?

I think my air pump increases humidity...running air bubbles through the water will pick up water molecules and throw them into the air...and yes it helps with air exchange...ive had some nice flushes that i never fanned or misted once...

What was your setup? Rubbermaid with perlite and an air hose coming in through a hole in the bottom? Thats what I have in mind but I still have a couple more weeks before It needs to be operational.

It'd be better to run you air hose through a hole in the handle than to make a new hole near the bottom. Check your rubbermaid. It should have a hole that you could run the tube through or you could make bigger to run it through.

See in this pic how the tubes go in.

On the inside they they are just run back down to the bottom and are connected to two 12" air stones beneath lava rocks. See on the left.

Excellent, I think I'll rig something like that up. Do you have anything producing heat inside of your terrarium or does it just stay hot and humid enough at room temperature?

Ekstaza...

if you mind me asking... i see that you are using lava rocks... that is what my dog plans on using....

How do you sterilize the lava rock before you put it in the fruiting chamber... and how much water do you put vs how much lava rock?

like 2 inches lava rock... 1 inch water...

or 3 inches lava rock.. 2 inches water... (this is what my animal plans on using)

one more question...

i just tested out my airstones and it doenst seem to evenly distribute air...like some comes out the first third and the last third... is this normal? i still think enough air is coming out to do the job, just wondering if there was something to make it come out evenly all along the airstone...

Most airstones have to be immersed in water for 1hr before they perform well.
