Is it possible to grow Agarikon?

I recently found out about this mushroom and when I went to research growing it I can't find a single video or thread where someone actually did it.

I'm assuming there is some reason why you can't grow it?

Ok so I guess it's impossible to grow it. How do you get the medicine out of the mycelium?

Do you just let a jar of WBS get fully colonized and then I'm guessing boil the spawn to extract the medicine?

From my research, it is very slow growth. It is specific to mulberry trees.

So not very favorable to cultivation.

Mycelium on grain is mostly grain and little mycelium. Doubt if you would get much medicinal benefit from this.

I see people selling cultures and even extracted powder extract online but I don't know how they are doing it because you can't grow the mushroom. So frustrating.

Ive seen chaga fruiting on agar so never say never.  Perennial polypores just dont sound profitable even if you could fruit it indoors

I believe they outdoor cultivate in Asia.

In Tradd cotters book he says fruiting it outside is a difficulty level of 3 out of 5 . Definitely doable

I don't think it's reasonable to fruit this species and also just not necesssary, I have a culture of it and just like Chaga plan to make LC / submerged culture to reap the benefits.

Supposedly it does quite well on a malt LC. Not as quick as some other species but reasonable growth. I think they also added various inorganic salts and other micronutrients.
Just check out some academic studies.

If it can fruit as a saprotroph it might still take quite some management to maintain the substrate well, it seems like a different situation than decades long fruiting as a parasite.

I would rather learn and optimize LC / submerged culturing in a bioreactor (possibly can be in batch or continuous mode not sure) to have actual control and a reasonable timeline.
As for chaga, that might actually even produce a good tasting LC product...

    Can you give me more info on this LC/Submerged technique? I want to extract Agarikon and use it.

    I just assumed people colonized grain jars of Agarikon and then boiled the grain for something?

    Meh not really? There should be so much info/teks on making LC and submerged culturing seems to be more or less the same but involves a lot of agitation and aeration of the culture for aerobic growth.
    However providing sterile aeration can prove difficult without advanced setups and it may not be necessary if you can provide enough air exchange and magnetic stirring. I guess small sharp objects included can help to shred mycelium threads to prevent the LC from growing a static piece of myc early on.

    You can build your own magnetic stirrer DIY (again: look it up).

    I wish I could say more but I am figuring this out myself and unfortunately also have higher priority work going on besides this.

    AFAIK if you focus on this it has the potential to be effective and easy in some respects, but at first it may not seem quite so efficient compared to solid state substrate before you get a handle on it and scale it up to nice 'bioreactors'.

    But sure: solid state remains an option I guess - you could extract mycelium. Probably you will want to grow this on at least partially a wood substrate and not just grains. I can't comment on an ideal recipe for a solid substrate.

    Many species should work well as LC / submerged culture and one of the advantages may be that you don't have to separate your substrate from your product quite so much since your substrate is liquid.
    I think with something like Cordyceps it may be a bit more tricky because with LC you don't have quite as well overview of what you are growing and  since Cordyceps is composed of a whole set of species, you might inadvertently start growing mostly some of the molds present.
