Taken a vacation from Facebook. EDIT: Permanent Vacation!
    #25826698 -

If the vacation proves to be as wholesome as I expect it to be, Phase 2:

You can talk about anti-vaxxer memes or memes to the effect that patients should stop their medical treatment and mix togeter turmeric and honey foir a certain cure..

You can talk about an army of hurt women piling up on top of you for the audacity of disagreeing with one of them as a man.

You can talk about the same effect as described previous, with millitant minority OR MAJORITY members.

You can talk about reporting a group that systematically ridicules and trivializes the holocaust and be told it doesn't violate the community guidelines and making an obvious gay banter post with a fellow gay friend you are friends with for years and get hit with a temp ban for Hate Speech.

You can talk about Russian troll factories who put thousands of nine-to-five work hours in societal disruption through abuse of psychology for cyber warfare purposes.

There are thousands of things you can talk about in this regard.

The way FB handles your privacy though. :noyoudidawet:

That alone should be enough.

Not just is it a psychologically unhealthy well that keeps on being poisoned - your privacy is being gangraped in ways unimaginable, for the benefit of the highest bidder.

Deleted FB months ago, that AI predicting and add bullshit is too much, literally training an AI to spam us with add content to make you more likely to spend money.

And people with snap chat, your literally training a program to trace facial features and making it better for, and easier for said program/GOV. To do so. Say by to your freedoms ohh soooo slowly.

N memes I've realized even since the early days of 4chan and shit, it's a cancer, a mental cancer of the worst kind, lovem but hate what they've become.

Would like to add FB was released the day the CIA decided not to make a format that could track a whole person's life from start to finish.....OHHHh wait....what's FB??
Where dumb people post everything about there lives..? Your relationship' job' phone number' region' religion' political p.o.v.'s' taste in music'
It's crazy...people put every good/bad moment in life on it, some bitch live streamed killing her husband by throwing a toaster or some shit into the tub at a hotel she caught him in, cheating with a dude🤣

I was permanently banned from Facebook for “hate speech” when I quoted Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have A Dream” speech to defend illegal immigrants from the accusation that they’re all drug dealers, rapists, and murderers.

I was so pissed off that I didn’t create a new account.

I was listening to coast to coast Am the otherday and there was this guy who has been a huge antivaxer for years. And he was saying "Just get your kids vaccinated, I was wrong, don't listen to people like me" it was pretty funny watching him backtrack. I think he realized he could potentially be held accountable for his quackery.

I only FB to see post from like Psychedelic Club of Denver and Portland Psilocybin Society as well as some of faces on YT who have FB pages like James W. Jesso and Martin W. Ball, who also post some pretty cool art. And some old friends.

I don't post often, but when I do, I try and make it count.

As far as my usage, I estimate less than 10 minutes a day on FB as it's usually a quick scroll to see new post and get that dopamine hit quick.

In the final 3 hours before my Facebook account of 5 years and 375 followers is deleted I have made up my mind regarding re-activation.

In the first days I withdrew from Facebook.

In a couple weeks, it was a void in my life.

In the past couple weeks, that void filled up.

Facebook Zucks. It zucks up all your private data, extrapolates more data from it through algorhythms, follows you around all over the web logging what you do and throwing it through the algorhythm machine and then turns right around and sells this to the highest bidder.

Its not conspiracy talk, I don't give a flying shite what governmental alphabet soup orgs make of my web presence or any of that - I don't want my inner workings sold off to commercial parties who use that data to manipulate me into impulse buying their shit.

It also was drawing me away from the Shroomery, and quite frankly, the Shroomery is where I belong, among the mushrooms and toadstools with their razor sharp critical thinking and airfloat fluffy flights of psychedelic fancy, not the turmeric & apple cider vinegar meme crowd.

I want to reduce my computer time in the coming year, and spend the hours I do spend online more wisely, and more wisely definitely means a stronger Shroomery presence.

The social media can drown in the facepoop shitstorm of the coming months of cyberwar and social engineering, I pitch my tent here on this great site Ythan made that doesn't bleep bleep at you with every move, throws up random popups or kills you with in-your-face advertizing.

I made the call, I'll be spending the final 3 hours of my facebook renewal option with my buddies in the real world.

Ciao, Facepoop. :shitfan:

There's no mass awakening, most of them are just moving to Instagram, which is the same evil empire with a different skin. The cookies are interchangeable, the tracking is the same.

Can't disagree with anything you've said. But fb got me hooked at a young age that it's filled with nostalgia and my only connection with people here and gone. Might sound weird, but I like to see my dead mother's friend request still pending, I hated the woman, but I can't explain the emotions involved in keeping it pending and seeing it constantly.

A sickening thing I've seen is prospective employers requesting access to your fb profile as if it's a reasonable screening measure (it's optional, but still, looks like you're hiding something)

I have facebook and only use it for concert info because I'm old and out of the loop. It's the only way I would have known to get tickets for Trey Pistachio's new band, Ghost's of the Forest.

I'm also in a Trials Dirt Bike selling group and a Leopard Tortoise group because I love looking a leopard tortoises!

I have no friends on there. Sometimes a new person I meet adds me. So I'm nice and I add them, but a week later I unfriend them.

I'm cheap when it comes to buying most frivolous things so I don't care if they try to sell me stuff. I'm not influenced by facebook/Russia political influence either.

Got a Facebook account when I started selling real estate. Didn't help with that at all. It did help me see what major assholes many of my "friends" were though. I remember these people from my younger years, some of them were pretty chill (I'm almost 57). Disappointing to see how many of them have become hyper-conservative assholes or religious fanatics. They're on Facebook looking for an echo chamber for their thinking. Anyone with different ideas is either stupid or evil in their minds. So glad I quit Facebook.

I quit using Facebook back last year. Left it for a month and came back. Same people posting the same shit being argued over by more of the same people using the same arguments.

Their algorithm is designed to build your echo chamber and keep it strong. You don't get to see all of your friends' posts, only the ones they think you might like. It's all about eyeballs on ads, not connecting the world. I still go on, 1) because I manage a group and 2) because I'm in another group that buys chicken food at wholesale and saves me about $200/year. (I know, just a junkie's excuse...)

Before I (mostly) dropped it I ran an experiment and unfollowed all my friends. FB didn't have a clue how to handle that. Kept just getting random ads and nothing else (but, since the algorithm has some kind of built in ad:posts ratio built in, some days it just didn't know what to do).

If Zuck and Co. had kept their promises about what Facebook was to be and not just mining data I would spend $200/year as a subscription. But the problem is that the paltry 200-300 million people who would also have done so pale in comparison to the billions of others who can't or don't want to. In some places around the world, Myanmar, Bangldesh, India, Facebook is basically the internet. That's where the growth market is and why FB is ignoring all calls for its reformation as it stares at an even bigger pile of money to be made outside of the West.

Also took a month and a half break from the Shroomery.  Sometimes it is just good to take a break from electronics to me and social media in all its forms.  One becomes more aware how much of it is just complete garbage.
