Any bowhunters here?
    #25820150 -

So I've been going to archery with my family and I've been invited to join a mens bowhunters group. It'll be good for be as I'm an anti-social mofo.

Anyone else here do this sort of thing? How do you find it?

I used to be into competitive archery.
My favourite discipline was unmarked field, shooting at tea plate sized targets at unknown distances.

Bow hunting is a challenge and a lot more rewarding then hunting with a gun.
But should be done ethically, you should not shoot beyond the distance that you can consistently put 3 arrows into a saucer size target.

Longbows are the best but brings that ethical hunting range right in.
Good way to get your stalking skill up though.

There's lots of feral pigs and cats here, so every one that dies saves 10 other animals every day. Ethically I have no issue.

Shooting a pig with a bow is pretty dangerous, they tend to fight back. I understand why men go in groups to do this sort of activity. Something about it appeals to me though. I've done very dangerous jobs and my mundane computer based existence calls for balance.

Did you hunt before sharpie?

Yeah I hunt.
I believe in clean kills or as much as possible.
But ferals, cats dogs pigs foxes I will dispatch without a second thought.
Never bow hunted pigs would probably bring a gun as backup if I did.

I've been invited to a club, so I'll just follow their best practices if I do go.

Its illegal to kill any native animal here, so they only target ferals.

I've got mild social anxiety though, I don't want to look like an idiot or like I'm trying too hard. Maybe it's a way to get away from my tribe a bit though and live a bit.

If you don’t feel comfortable don’t take any shots just watch and learn.
Never had a bad day hunting.
It’s nice just being out in nature. Specially if your sitting still amazing what you will see and how close animals will get.

There's 2.5 million feral cats in my country, and they all kill 10 native creatures a day.

There's no legal or moral limit on how many you can shoot.

I use to take trips to the rockys and hike up to go elk hunting
Theres something really primitive in our dna about staring into an animals eyes before you let that arrow fly
Alot more plesurable and honorable than just rifle hunting

besides habitat loss feral cats are the second biggest cause of bird extinction. the numbers of birds that are killed each day is truly staggering. Around here only a few states allow you to legally kill feral cats.

I was thinking an buying an older model new bow on discount to start. Locally I can get a 2017 Martin Firecat (M4) for a decent price. Reckon it's a good starter bow.

Pretty exciting stuff.

I pro fished for years, I don't mind killing if it is for food or reason. I abhor violence though.

In my mind if you are prepared to eat it you should at least be able to watch it die. Animal reality.

It is a reality though, not a commercial fantasy.

If it wasn't for eating animals we would not be here right now
