I noticed that the mycellium seemed weak or even translucent. I dropped agar wedges into oat jars to see what happens and attached is the result. The mycellium appears to be moving through the jar but is maintaining that translucent or weak look.

So first question, are the jars likely FUBAR? Second question is there something I did in the agar prep that would make life hard on the mycellium, too little nutes, too much agar, etc?

What was the outcome here? Have you tried to spawn to bulk?

I keep on getting the exact same phenomenon as you describe with almost all my cultures on agar from different spore prints of different varieties. I have already changed my agar brand and my malt extract brand without any effect. Also now tried BRF agar plates, but its too early to tell, if it changes anything.
It seems to me that my cultures are tomentose most of the time and mostly remain tomentose when in oat jars. On agar they have a wide translucent leading edge and the center looks wispy. I always ask myself, if it's mold as well, but I spawned to bulk such grain jars once and they lead to fruits, although not strong growth really, but still it could not be mold after all.

Just curious, if you found out later, what the problem was...
