Black edges on Ganoderma Lucidum agar sample

Hi there,
I am an apprentice cultivator and have just received some Ganoderma Lucidum mycelium on an agar piece. I am very exited to give this little buddy a new start. However I noticed that the edges of the mycelium cut are darkish and wondering if it is some contam. that I should discard before further manipulations.



Should I worry ?
What would you do with this piece for the best start ?

Could be burnt from hot scalpel? I would ask the sender about it and what he thinks.

For best start, put on agar.

:whathesaid: dont worry about that .. i received a wedge like that, mine was much blacker than this :laugh: . it took a while to pickup on agar, but once it started it didn't seems to stop, atleast in my case.. don't know about your sender.. (ganoderema lucidum has a tendency of yellowing from the cut edges not black though)

Hi,
Thanks for the advice's. Good point about the hot scalpel hypothesis, probably it is that. Ganoderma is on a new agar plate now and I will follow up in few days to tell you how it went.

Just passing by to report, the mycelium is growing well and clean. Ends up it was most probably nothing more than scalpel burn.

I received a G. Lucidium recently from the free wedge thread and when I put it on agar it was terribly contaminated with bacteria and green mold... So sad...:shrug:
