I was hoping this want a thought out post so I could give a simple answer... I dont believe you can, I can be very mistaken. honestly you should try it if you have a cake you can afford to waste....
I would advise fruiting most of them in a terrarium for the first time... 1 for playing

Usually perlite is not used for a casing ingredient, vermiculite is.

Perlite can be used in the bottom layer to help to drain water , but not on the top (verm or mix). Regular dutch growkits are done in this way ( perlite/substrate/casing layer) .

yes sticking the cake directly onto the perlite increases the risk of contam by alot

I have used "Dunk and Roll" on cakes, with both Verm. and Peri. I got the same weight from each cake. The Peri. cake had a few large shrooms. the verm cake had a lot of little ones. Try it and see. Don't forget to let us know how it goes.

If you steralize the perlite first, I don't imagine there is much of a contamination problem.
