Dolomite based lime is not to be used for changing the ph level of your casing.
Now can someone tell me what to do with a 3kg bag of  dolomite based HL? :facepalm3:

all these different forms of lime with similar names drive me nuts, thanks for pointing that out.

edit: just found this. Like the sound of it

I learned recently that peanut butter morsels and coconut oil cover the taste of mushrooms better than chocolate does...

And they taste better in robot form?
:kittylaugh:

I'm going to be using myco bags for the first time tomorrow morning.  I'm letting my grains dry overnight.  Using large .5 micron filtre bags.
I do not have a fancy flow hood like some people.....so have to work in a SAB.  Also, I am inoculating from a grain jar.
Any tips?

Being in robot form definitely helps with the taste... don't you think?

I've read someone saying they had to be careful not to let the bag go bc their SAB wasn't tall enough and they spilled grain everywhere... I'd imagine it a PITA, but have seen others who get away with it

Not sure if it can be seen but I put bricks of coir under the lip of my SAB LOL not quite going to work.  Build a wood frame?  It’s close though but think I would have to be more careful than ever.

oh you're going for height?

I once tried adding a new arm hole to the lid of my SAB, put the lid on and flipped the tub up on end so it would be as tall as possible. Never used it much that way but its an idea.

Yes, so the bag isn’t rubbing the roof and I don’t have to shove the jar in the bag to dump.  I turned the bricks up on their edge and I’m going to give it a go unless someone else has an idea (using materials I have on hand).

IMO, you may want to try 3 hour runs.
I always go 3 hours now @15psi on my runs and seen night at day improvement with this issue with oats.
Never had a problem with straight white millet at 90.
If you can safely get up to 21 psi; 90 should be sufficient from what I have gathered. -edit- Also vent for 10 minutes so you don't have any air pockets.

ive always ran into this problem i think this is it thanks

How long did you sterilize? It's suggested to go 2 hours, after letting it vent steam for 10 minutes and building pressure once the rocker is in place... id suspect your grain was too wet and has exacerbated the issue quite significantly... you might get lucky fruiting it, but subsequent G2G jars would likely stall out IMO

i did vent for 15 min, if anything i tried to make it on the dry side bc ive had this problem before.

i just dumped them, fuck that.....ill just start over. it has to be the pc time tho i started with agar and im confident that it was clean unless bacteria can hide in agar and i missed it

it has to be the pc time if that doesnt fix it idk what the fuck to do....thanks

hopefully what I said made sense and you either don't like the idea or don't have the means to make a new arm hole.

No need to reply if its needless but I'll just clarify that I meant tipping it up on the smallest side, the one with latches/handles. gives you all the height you need

Actually I saw someone post that before, maybe it was you.....I could try that.  I have 3 bags to do so just one at a time with time in between to let the dust settle when reloading the SAB?

This is a horrible way of thinking and may bite you in the ass. A2g is different that a2a.

Bacteria can hide on agar, bad grain prep and technique are the main source of bacteria

i was under the impression that agar was the best way to test sterile technique but I must be taking something out of context there.

Chinese methods are weird. This guy is knocking enriched sawdust in open air on a dirt floor. I also hear some of them pasteurize with steam piped under big tarps covering huge piles of bags with no spaces between them. Its all rather interesting
