Should smoking be banned?
    #25803617 -

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.euronews.com/amp/2019/02/10/hawaii-considers-new-bill-banning-cigarette-sales-to-anyone-under-100

It looks like Hawaii is moving to ban cigarettes sales. Considering that cigarettes are deadly and offer practically no benefits to the user, do you guys agree with the bill?
Is the addiction and health factor enough for you to warrant a ban? Or do you guys feel that we should have the freedom to smoke away and self destruct?
Can anyone even see this bill passing?

I can see the bill passing with enough support from the people, though I heavily lean on the side of individual freedom and would be against such a ban.

I don't know what the polls show in Hawaii.

I am in a minority on the shroomery, as I frequently defend the opposing side when they have a point about something or when my side make believes something about them.  I also attack my side if I think they're wrong.  People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.

Feck the polls.

People should grow tobacco if they want it and be able to trade it for other tobacco products.  I tried to trade tobacco for mescaline peyote once.  He didn't want it.

Smoking can be real bad and that's why people do it.  But IT IS A HALLUCINOGEN.

Smoking tripping is powerful.  Just the generation I grew up.  Some quit cause cacncer fears.  So it takes time to learn to vape, even that loses sensativity.

It's similar to different strains of cannabis.  You can get bored and get sick from cannabis just as much as tobacco.  It's nastalga.

Hawaii is small and insular enough to pass the bill maybe.
I also disagree with such a ban, despite acknowledging the obvious negative health impacts of smoking tobacco.

Full disclosure: I smoke cigarettes.

Agreed. I think the personal freedom to smoke outweighs the negative health effects. I don't smoke or like the smell btw

People dislike smoke because it is a rude thought being activated.  It's a 'fuck it'.

What smells bad to one, is personal to another.  I find car exhaust the worst.  Burning gas is terrible.

I agree with that. I feel car pollution smells worse and is a greater threat to your health than second hand smoke. People should be more worried about breathing pollution walking down the sidewalk everyday than briefly breathing in second hand smoke a few days a week

I try to be polite about not just lighting up in a crowd or something.  I don't want someone blowing smoke in my face either.  That said, I do get irritated by this exact point.  people who live 100 yards from the freeway coming across the parking lot to hassle me about smoking in their town.  I remember when a particular city I lived in passed their smoking ordinance and local crazies were encouraged to visit city hall where they could pick up "reminder tickets" to hand out to anyone they saw smoking outside of the designated areas.

If this is the case, marijuana smoking should be banned too.

Smoke in general is bad for the lungs.

And, as Hopkins suggested, let's tax all fat people for carrying extra stones on the airplanes, shall we?

i think a big issue with the tobacco industry is the insidious promotion of smoking and now vaping to young teenagers. the general society would benefit from smoking being banned. maybe make it so you can buy them online or at a specific place only? or tax them even more to offset the effect on the health system.

i have smoked off and on in the past but never a super big smoker, just when stressed out or working with people who smoke, or when i was drinking.

It won't work.  It will create a blackmarket and more criminals (slavery).

Just because upper class yuppies don't smoke anything but very expensive cigars.  I like to FEEL.  I enjoy emotion.  Smoking or drinking or consuming gives me life and power.

It's just hard to go without to get that satisfaction back.  We need more varity than bans.  They could make tobacco illegal like they do everything else.

We all see how prohibition goes.  It would hurt the south badly.

i wouldn't compare cannabis to tobacco cigarettes personally but yes i support cannabis legalization for medical as well as recreational. the cannabis situation has a lot more factors with drug test leverage as well as giving law enforcement reason to rip cars apart.

im not really for banning things but cigarettes are a net negative in every way. it is also another method of imprisoning poor people with addiction.

Unhealthy food is a similar culprit, wouldn't you say?

Let's ban MacDonald's and fast food so we can have a healthier America!

I'm for illegalization of public tobacco consumption, make it like weed in the legal states. If you wanna smoke inside or on your private property cool, but anywhere else should be fined at least the minimum for littering, I've never seen a smoker dispose of butts properly.

XUL, does mcdonalds force people near you to eat mcdonalds? no. Smoking near someone does force them to inhale carcinogens they didn't choose to take.

Walking on the sidewalk also forces you to breath in car exhaust which is worse for you than second hand smoke.  The Philippines kinda addressed your point...

I'm for a legal controlled market.  Obviously if you cannot handle your shit, you go broke in jail or a mental ward.

That's just a fact, or dead.  People are already doing this stuff and it's created a huge amount of subversion potential for other nations such as Russia.  They have lawyers as well.  They know how to game better than any punk in any American college.

I don't smoke ciggies and really hate the smell of them. I am constantly telling my workmate to fuck off with his cigarette.

Saying that I don't agree with banning ciggies. Ciggie smokers pay shitloads of tax which is suppossed to be converted into healthcare dollars. Same should apply with a weed tax. I smoke weed daily.

Fat people don't need a Maccas ban but a FAT ARSE TAX on crap food is a great idea if the money collected is converted into healthcare dollars. If people choose to eat unhealthy crap they should pay for that choice.
This wouldn't discriminate against people who are overweight due to medical conditions.

Off Topic, I really like your Butterbean pic XUL  100 times better than the last one.

I don't agree with a smoking ban, but I would support jailing and/or euthanizing smokers who can't quit after a reasonable notice period.

good food gets smokey.  That's a fact jack.  Just cleaning stuff gets to be a pain.  Such as cleaning computers.  Cleaning fridge parts.  Cleaning the stove is not a big deal.

It's a constant battle if you are aware.

That sounds like you both want to go to prison.  It's an age thing that you are harassing older people that chose to do something their parents did and their grandparents did and on thru the ages.

You cannot conspire like that. I'd move to Cuba.  Join the Soviets.

I like smoking and it's not the only thing killing me.  It won't be banned outright in Ohio for a long time.  Probably not in Kentucky.

That cigarette first time out of somewhere after long lock up is like crack.  I never heard of a US President or really anyone in the world assassinated for leadership because they smoked.

It's a form of yoga.  Some people just cannot smoke anymore and that's fine.  Vaping is also a different thing but I doubt the future will be all vapors.  Vapors don't go camping.  Camping requires smoke.  Obviously not all smoke is the same.

Might just add that smoking has been banned in prisons in most states here, just saying.
Also, the lawn mowers all run on Methanol to curb petrol sniffing. Bloody fast lawn mowers in prison.
