ez-felt & quilt batting for mono holes

I've been stuffing my mono holes with polyfil as most teks recommend, and things have been going pretty well.  I stuff the bottom holes as tight as I can and the top holes very loose.  However... one thing driving me crazy is when the fruits grow into/around the polyfil and then I have to pick a buncha fibers off the shroomies  :mad2:    Also when I stuff the holes I feel like I don't make all of them consistently tight.

So in an effort to streamline efficiency and consistency I am trying out poly-felt on the bottom holes and quilt batting polyfil for the top holes.  Just taping them flat over the holes.

I'm using two layers of felt on the bottom holes (i tried breathing through one layer of felt and it seemed a not quite restrictive enough.  breathing through two layers was more difficult and my gut told me to go with that...)

I'm using one layer of the quilt batting polyfil on the top holes.

Here's what they look like next to some tubs that have the reg polyfil stuffing:


They look so neat and clean compared to the messy stuffed holes!  If this works out, I'll be as happy as when I got my first flush  :cool:


Anybody have any experience or comments to share?

I was planning on doing something similar but then I found out about dialing in using Micropore tape. I believe there is also a poly-felt tape you can buy.

I've seen this tek and considered ironing some quilt batting but apparently that makes something that is pretty much exactly the same as poly-felt  (from what I've read).

So using poly-felt saves me a bit of labor time.  If my current experiment doesn't work out then I will try the ironing.

I've read about using the micro-pore tape and considered trying it as well. How do you go about dialing in with the tape?  I've read about people using multiple layers, and also people leaving some tiny slivers of the holes untaped.

This is the first I'm hearing of this poly-felt tape.  Very interesting.  Anybody know more?

I was just looking through amazon when I found the poly felt tape. Iโ€™m not sure how well it breathes but there is only one way to find out.
