How is this casing looking?
    #2579801 - 04/19/04 08:45 PM (19 years, 11 months ago)

Its a un-pasturized composted manure/straw 3-4"thick 1'square. I cased with verm/peat, and spawned with yeast contamed WBS. It colonized within a week then i cased it. The growth showed in less then a week. I already patched it twice, the last time was like 3 days ago.

Now should i keep patching or wait for pins as is? Ive been exposing it to intense light (60w incandesant about 1' above) for about 5-10 min a days for almost a week now. Its covered with a white plasic bag in my room which is lit by a 70w hps on my tobaccoo grow, sun light and my room light.

I dont mist it, i just fold the bag down so its just above the casing sealing the bag and it holds in peanty moisture, it all build up on the plastic so it muct be 90-100% humidity. I air it out once a day. I havent seen any pins yet.

Get that plastic off and give it some air! It's just screaming to pin, but that requires some fresh air. the casing is plenty colonized so keep it at around 70-74 degrees and it'll pin soon. Best of luck!

Actually I wouldn't have pasteurized it either!

I don't quite understand the logic behind pasteurizing composted manure or, as some other growers have done - spent mushroom compost. The fact that it is compsted should negate the need to pasteurize, no???

yea i figured that composted manure would be already pasturized since its composted in large heaps that get to pasturization temps for days. Then the benifical microcorganisims would just colonize the straw and its all self pasturized.
