Calcium chloride tablets with blue part - safe to use?
    #25798758 -

I have a pack of dehumidifiers, and their composition is > 60% calcium chloride. Remaining 40% part is mystery, since I can't any info on the package.

This is how tablet looks: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/71DozBhbjwL.jpg

Btw, judging it by user reviews, they don't turn pink when they are used (afaik, thats the sing of cobalt).

Are these safe to use as desiccant?

Thats a 450g refill tab for the UniBond Aero 360 moisture absorber. They're designed for rooms and not safe for food applications.

Yeah OP what you really need is a dehydrator. Get fruits cracker dry and store them in an airtight container or bag. I am curious to know if desiccants are even widely used for long term storage in 2019.

I have one, but I noticed that mushrooms aren't cracker dry after few days if I use only dehydrator.

If mushrooms don't come in contact with desiccant, and they are separated correctly, are they safe? I already put some in the food container along with tablet.

DampRid is also room moisture absorber, but everyone is using it on this forum.

You can always make your own desiccant packs by emptying a tea bag and filling it with salt, but run your dehydrator until they are cracker dry, thats the best way

Desiccant is basically useless. It will keep dry ones dry but so will a Tupperware. Get them cracker dry then put them a bag. If they're going to be around more than a few weeks use air tight storage. If your dehydrator doesn't get them cracker dry its broken or there's operator error.

If your dehydrator isnt getting mushrooms dry that is because it isn't heated. You need a heated dehydrator. Or turn your heat up.

Hell, even a dehydrator fan-only would get them dry in a couple days. WTF?

Not if the humidity is decently high.

I already ran to the cracker dry point, but they softened after a day in an airtight jar.

Is it ok to run them again until cracker dry (hour-two)?

And are silica beads inside storage useless too (after drying fruits properly)?

Dehydrator is set on 95f (lowest).

Why. Set it to at least 160F.

Come on man 95 is too low. You just thought you got them to cracker dry. They aren't THAT magical of a mushroom to make water out of nothing.

I read that temp shouldn't go beyond 110f (Stamets says that apparently).

Is it ok to run them again?

We are saying to go beyond that. Yes it's ok to run them again and you need to turn your heat up to full-ass-blast.

Ok, thanks man!

One more question: airtight jar or bag for long term storage? (I don't have vacuum sealer btw)

Jar or ziplock bag is both fine. For long term you can toss a silica pack in for extra protection.

Fuck Stamets. Sorry, but he's got information about some things, but growing at the rates hobbyists are? He doesn't know that any more.

why do you not worry for the remaining humidty that is in the air tight jar? the shrooms will absorb that, with a dessiacnt they truly remain 100% cracker dry.
