Not Sure If This Belongs Here
    #25789344 - 02/03/19 09:50 PM (4 years, 11 months ago)

Not sure but I have had an idea for a LONG time now that just makes since.

So much of the natural world is covered in snow and cold weather for about half  and even all of the year, still we run machines to run our coolers and freezers and we do this with arguably harmful refrigerant chemicals with the aid of a ton of electricity.

Why doesnt someone invent a system that takes the natural cold air from the outside and bring it inside?  I know that you will need to regulate the temp to meet standards, and it will always fluctuate up and down but still, we keep paying to run freezers and coolers while the outside temp already meets our needs.

I belive that done right, cooling systems can be built that could save us Trillions just by using how cold is already is.

or you could put the shit outside.  it requires no energy at all.  its super "green"

I'm talking commercial use..  I work in the grocery business and lately it's been super fucking cold here, like -20 two days ago.  Still, we run a $19,000 electric bill every month and a full third of that is to run freezers and coolers all while it's freezing outside.  The funny thing is that the AC Units are on the roof, in the cold already.

I can imagine a design that sucks the cold air in, adjusts it up or down to achieve the desired temp in some sort of chamber or series of tubes or channels and then pumps it into the coolers.    While I can imagine this, I'm sure there is some reason why nobody has created this.

Its a great idea. The only thing using natural ambient cold from the outside that I can think of is Data Centers.

It wouldnt be hard to do, just some HVAC sucking air from outside, filtering it then pump it into your freezers and fridges.

Don't put freezers inside of building you need to keep warm.

Though outside air might be cold to use it would require modification to its temperature to match the freezer so you would be actually heating -20 air up which may be more expensive than the re-cooling of already cool air circulating through the freezers. And that system would be far more complex because it needs heating and cooling and switching between them and the ducting nightmares and need for controlled diverting. Also outside air has to have its humidity modulated to appropriate levels too.

As far as heating up air that is neg 20 to freezer temps would not cost energy at all. Cars use a blend door that takes some hot and some cold to get desired temps for your comfort. When you blend inside a home you'd use some cold from out side and warm from inside to avoid heating it.

Unfortunately running a de humidifier to get air just right will use almost as much electricity as a refrigerator. I'm sure this has been thought of before and for whatever reason wasn't practical.

Unless the freezer company's bought out the patents just to throw away so they keep selling freezers. Good idea though I'm sure someone somewhere has been doing this in their log cabin.

It sounds like it would be good for deli/egg/fruit areas or something.
