90 minutes @ 15psi is sufficient for quart jars.

Hell Yeah!

I hope it works out for you! I'll be patiently waiting for the results. :waitingpatiently:

If you're using a pressure cooker at 15 psi 2 hours should be plenty good enough. I use a steamer which doesn't get above like 1 or 2 psi, that's why I cook so long. That would be dangerous for me! Lmao

Also, I don't know if I'm deserving of having anything named after me. But I will take it! I feel humbled.

PS I will be posting pics of my new updated grow chamber in my other thread in the next day or so if anyone is curious. I have a hurricane fan and I hooked up a floating ultrasonic humidifier to the intake on a timer. It works MAGICALLY!

Ehh, it is your tek I'm using as a base!

Anywyas... that was a LOT of pressure cooking last night! Also mixing these two things up in my cooler was a huge hastle. Good news is that I'll be buying more bottles

Properly hydrated! They look totally different than I left them. My first thought was that maybe I didn't need to let them sit so long to hydrate... I was wrong.

So, it took a damn long time to mix these things up, likely 15 min of mixing. I'm probably going to avoid using artisanal wood shavings next time LOL.

Time to start packing:

This is what's left after 8qt. It seems to be a bit more than half. Looks like I used 2/5-ish of the mix:

Into the pressure cooker they went:

I did 8 qt. Going to get 8qt more. The first 4 jars I did were a little lighter than the second 4 I did. I mastered a sort of press technique I guess

The pressure cooking finished at 11:30 last night. I accidentally fell asleep at the tail end (like at 10:45), and then it hit over-pressure and depressurized down at the last minute... so when I woke up to the alarm 10 min later it was at 5psi. I decided to bring it back up to 15+psi then let it run for 30 more minutes just in case. Probably not the best practice, but whatever.

Then I feel asleep. I'm going to inoculate these tonight and it's basically the last thing I'm doing before I go on vacation tomorrow morning, lol. I'll report back next week on progress!

Yeah! Ran into some trich or some mold issues during second flush so I had to throw them out. Got close to a half pound on some blocks for the second flush, but didn't want to risk the whole project. I also don't know as much about initiating the second flush, but I did some more reading and found out I should probably hydrate them before the second flush? I have a new method of cutting the bags that will help the top layer of myc not dry out as much so we'll see with this next first flush. I have about 20 bags starting primordia right now.

I like how the wood shavings look! Might have to try that with my outdoor beds. The HWFP I can usually break up within 30 minutes if I need to.

I also dig the jars! Hopefully they work out great for ya! I'm excited to see.

Jooceman thank you for mentioning my steamer tek. If you get a chance let people truly know how the tek worked out for you and any suggestions on how to make the tek better would be great also.

Anyway now to why I posting this. I think the colonization times are a little long for you. I have full colonization in 10 days with soy hulls.
I think you may be over saturating the sub with water. Remember field capacity is different with fuel pellets you should only get 1 drop when you squeeze hard. Do a side by side test and with your regular field capacity and with 1 drop field capacity and see which colonizes faster with no change in fruiting weight.

Now about you not getting the BE you would like. I get 2 1/4 lbs first flush off most of my blocks. I think you are harvesting too soon. From what I see those have a lot more growing to do. At least a day or two more will increase the weight.  You need to let them grow to just b4 they drop their spores. Experiment with it you will get the feel for the perfect time to harvest.

Here is one of my blocks and this is not even a good one its just the only pic I have on hand but you will get the idea...

B4 anyone says it I know different mushrooms colonize at different rates my point is to much water will slow down colonization times it is better to be to dry than to wet.

Yes, just water your bags like you would a mono tub. itll suck up the moisture it needs and then drain off the excess.

Some of them were already curling up and definitely dropping spores... I'll try and let them go longer this time. I'll try and use 8#s of water this time. It may also be that I didn't let them cool down long enough after pulling out of the steamer... They also don't look too wet, could just be where I'm storing the bags. It stays around 70-75 degrees though. But if I can get 1# per block on my first harvest anyone can get a decent amount even if they don't have any clue what they're doing!

Also, thank you for all the help Shrooms! Your steamer works perfect and I just had to get creative to figure out how to do it all on my own. Your guide helped immensely... I wouldn't have been able to do it without you.

I should also mention that the blues and phoenix oysters I have are not commercial strains, I got them from a vendor on this site. The 3015 are coming along a lot faster and should be full colonized in less than 2 weeks.

Thanks Ziran! That's what I thought, I've never used a monotube but sounds pretty straight forward.

Also, I will be updating this thread with the results of the next set of bags in a week or 2. I want to try it with less moisture and see if it works better. Like I said I used another step by step walkthrough but all HWFP are not created equally (they all have different moisture content). The ones I have say they have no more than 8% moisture content so if they're that full then I could very well be almost 10% over with moisture! Going to correct this. But like I said before if I'm already pulling a # off these bags once it gets dialed in more I could pull even more!

Jooceman did I send you that 3015 or did you get it somewhere else? If you got it from me its the real deal make sure you keep that thing safe. From what I hear you have to buy 1000 lbs of spawn to get it now. Not sure if that's true though.

I did get it from you! And yes it is safe. I still have the original master and I made 5 backups. Plan to make more soon from the og culture. It's been the most prolific out of all my cultures so far and I've been gifting it out to others to spread the love.

I'm just now about to move the first 3015 bags into the chamber to fruit, like you said some of those ones colonized in about 10 days. The rest are on schedule to be fully colonized by day 14.

So I tried something different last night... I used 8 1/4 # of water per 3# of HFWP and 3 # of Soybean hulls. I heated them up in the stove and ended up with 60%ish moisture. I think I found the slow colonization problem. The area I live in is pretty humid even in the winter... so the sub might hold more moisture.

I didn't update before, but the next day I pulled them out of the pressure cooker and let them sit:

It was pretty challenging to "mix" up the grains and the substrate, but I got a little mixing, probably like the top 1/3. I then left them and went on vacation. Here's a picture of them 1 week later already starting to rip through the substrate:

That picture was taken last Thursday night (4 days ago) and the myc has already colonized almost twice as much now as was in that picture. I'll post as things progress here. Looking good so far!

Here they are hanging out in my martha!

So I finally got my martha mostly assembled. It now has automated temp, relative humidity, and lighting. I noticed that the mycelium REALLY liked me setting everything up. What I was noticing as slower growth recently from them sped way up after I introduced the heat/lighting elements.

It seems like my golden mushrooms aren't loving this life I've given them though. The Pearl and Winter White oysters are loving this set up, and those enoki are catching up too. The pearl osyters hit 100% colonized a couple days ago (so about 28 days to colonize), but the last 15% - 20% was literally in less than 3 days. I'm going to let everything consolidate and then it'll be time to open them!

Also... lol the hardware stores near me started to not stock HWFP so I drove a little out of town to get the last that another store had. I decided 200# wasn't too much LOL

No idea what I'll use all this for. I have a total of 280# of HWFP now. I've used 3 up until this point.

Sup folks! I'm here for an update! I'm fruiting these this weekend:

They've been consolodating for about... oh 2-3 weeks. I had some weirdness happen that I've been trying to figure out, and I think I finally put it together last night.

So half of my bottles turned out like this (or worse):

That's the one second in from the left in the lineup picture. I had removed the others before I documented it.

At first I couldn't figure out if it was bad grains or something else, but it seemed like my mycelium was having a hard time. Since I've never worked with wood and these are pretty challenging bottles to see into, I wasn't sure what was going on inside. So I left them for a while. I finally opened one up last night and it looked like this on the inside:

It was so strange that this had happened to 4/8 of my bottles! And one of each type I spawned! Then I remembered this:

ShaperDreaming said:

I accidentally fell asleep at the tail end (like at 10:45), and then it hit over-pressure and depressurized down at the last minute... so when I woke up to the alarm 10 min later it was at 5psi. BAM! That's it. I didn't sterilize half of them properly and that's what happens. I didn't post this before, but I had also bought enough muda bottles to finish off the rest of the substrate I had created, but just waiting the 4 days or so after I made the sub-mix it had started to go bad, which was simple to smell as soon as I opened the cooler. These contaminated jars smelled the same.

So, now my initial reason for inoculating one jar of each batch was to see if tighter or looser packed wood colonized better and what the different speeds were. Thank god I did that! As a result I have one jar of each ready to fruit/spawn this weekend!

I know, long story without much information except that I fucked up, but still. Keeping this alive! I probably should have figured this out like 3 weeks ago, but I'm new at this. My plan is to spawn them by simply opening them up, adding dry verm, and misting the shit out of it as per Muda Bottle instructions. (I realized I have no idea where my verm is last night or I'd be done with this already lol)
