Looking sexy! I'm going to be testing some sub mixes in jars very soon here. I couldn't find anywhere that had soybean hull pellets (or just soybean hulls) so I think I'm going to have to substitute wheat bran into this. Any other ideas?
I'll post how this mix goes for jars when/if I get anything!

I think you can do 20-30% bran. Haven't played around with it. You could also use beet pulp pellets. Have you checked feed stores? Trying to get this sub down first. I'm excited to see the results of my 3015 though on this. And I'll be on the look out for yours as well!

I didn't look for beet... yet, will do! There's just not a lot of feed stores in this city. There's 2 (more like 1.5). The next closest are over an hour drive (each way). Gonna have to make due if I can't find something else.
So you're saying 70% HWFP and 30% Bran... or am I missing something?
I'm also going to roll out some of Muda's Bottle Tek recipe (straw based) and see how they compare for working in bottles.

Yes 70-80% HFWP and 20-30% bran. Feed stores would be the only place to carry them and you can probably have them order some. Both of those are popular feed items and most feed stores should carry them. That's weird if they don't. lol
Also good to note, they come in 50# bags so buy like 5 or 10 and they'll last you upwards of 4-6 months maybe longer depending on how many bags you're doing at a time. An hour drive might be worth it but you would have to buy several bags. I had to drive an hour to get 10 bags of HWFP

Well, the Menards near me (home-depot-like) has HFWP bags strangely! On my drive home from work even. These are inner city feed stores, so... like... no one probably ever gets those items. When I talked with the people on the phone they didn't even know what I meant with soybean hulls (or pellets)... I swear, we lost our country up in this city.
And... I'm just going to buy like 1 bag to start You have really high hopes for me lol

Looks great for your technique. takes too much time. Why not use poo? Mix crude oil with shredded straw to same consistency as poo if you can't get poo.

It really doesn't take much time at all... I can mix and bag 20 bags in less than 2 hours. And either way its going to take time to pasteurize the substrate... unless you don't care about contams. I'm not trying to waste time by cutting corners. And straw isn't as desirable as sawdust for several reasons (Not that it won't work.) It's super messy, its contaminant prone, it smells terrible, attracts rodents, gives lower yields, chopping it takes WAYYYY longer than mixing up pellets with water, and the methods for sterilizing it aren't usually very eco-friendly.
And as far as I'm concerned poo is an all around inferior substrate material for wood-loving species, although some people do use it... The substrate I listed is what a lot of commercial growers use as a standard to grow a variety of species, with consistent large yields. If I was growing portobellos or dung-loving magics I would probably be using something along those lines, but considering I don't grow either of those this is what I use. I use it for all my oyster species and lion's mane currently.
