Yes another Boards of Canada thread
    #2578630 - 04/19/04 06:07 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

After a long 3 week wait.. Music has the right... finally arrived in the mail!!

I've been listening to it on repeat for the last couple hours just getting to know it, and so far I must say I love it.  I bought geogaddi a couple weeks ago, I really like it, but so far I have a feeling I might end up listening to this album a bit more often.  Telephasic Workshop is playing as I write this..damn this kicks ass.

And to think, I might not have ever discovered them if it weren't for the shroomery.  Thanks so much to MrKite and Blastrid, among others of course for raving about them so much in past threads :mushroom2:

>I bought geogaddi a couple weeks ago, I really like it, but so far I have a feeling I might end up listening to this album a bit more often.

:smirk: after you get familiar with this one, you'll go back to Geogaddi.  The intrigue and depth of that far surpasses the already greatness of MHTRTC.  It is the perfect stepping stone to the next album, which is why I'm looking forward to the new one so much.

A few things I've discovered about Music Has the Right... (little stuff, and things I've read in interviews)

Eagle In Your Mind - the percussive sounds (minus drum kit) is altered fricative sounds from one of BoC's girlfriends
Turqouise Hexagon Sun has a heart beat entering a little way through it.  It is stereo-spread greatly, so sometimes difficult to hear without headphones.  It's been said that some biorhythms listened to will alter your own...
In Sixtyten, many of the percussive sounds were recorded by BoC while walking around hitting things with sticks, and other objects.
Play 'Rue The Whirl' and Happy Cycling backwards...

I'm trying to research more re: patterns, sequences, and ratios in their songs, cuz I know they're frequent...

Keep listening ekomstop, they only get better the more familiar with them you get. Then you start noticing more subtlties (essence of BoC)
Geogaddi = MHTRTC * 50 in that aspect

Yup, you're discovering BoC.

I never tire of Music has the Right... It's forever fresh, crisp and addictive. Geogaddi takes a lot longer but once you start to crack it it's got many more secrets.

I'd recommend In a Beautiful Place Out in the Country EP...the title track is perhaps the most stunning individual "song" piece they've put together.

They remind me of so many special things.

hmmm really?

I know that they sample a lot of PBS Shows ("Color Of Fire" is from Sesame Street), and other old films you used to watch on reel to reel back in elementary school.

Are you sure about that Molly? where'd you find this out?

BoC has a brilliant talent of combining child-like innocence with mystery and the feeling something's going on behind the scenes...

Hell yeah, I'm loving this stuff

I've been listening to both albums the last while, and I think I can see where your coming from in regards to geogaddi..though so far I can't really see either CD as better than the other, both of them seem to be such great albums!

I really like the thought of them doing music for kids shows..seems like they would be perfect for it.  Their music is so full of childhood-like imagination and playfulness, and as Blastrid said it has such a mysterious vibe woven into it aswell.  It's brilliant

I can definitely see myself picking up Twoism and the EP sometime soon

I think part of the reason it's awesome is because it's only 2 and a half minutes long. If it were longer, your desire to hear more would've been fulfilled

I'm gonna need an screen cap of that.... I don't know when teletubbies are on, nor would really want to watch em... :smirk:
I would fear for the kids if BoC did the music.  Sure it's innocent sounding, but what if something's going on underneath?

WHAT IF BOC IS CONTROLLING THE MINDS OF CHILDREN?!?

Sounds like that might be a good thing considering some of the crap they seem to be 'teaching' kids in schools these days..  :nut:

Damn..now all they need is Simon Postford doing the music for shows like Mr. Dressup & Size Small
