What's heroic about making future genuine victims of hate crimes less credible?

What's heroic about increasing racial and ideological tensions in an already difficult climate?

Misleading statements from a politician isn't a crime, while falsely reporting a hate crime to the police is a criminal act. It's really not that hard to see the distinction.

In fact, most "progressives" are even more upset than "conservatives" in this case because they actually believed a story that didn't even make any logical sense and felt very foolish after the fact.
