King oyster bags mutant pinning

Hello, I have been lurking, as it's called, for a couple years now, reading and learning.  I have had decent success thanks to all the skilled cultivators sharing their knowledge on this site.  I just recently actually made an account here with the goal of actually participating and, hopefully, contributing to this community that has been such a help to me.  That, and I actually have a question to pose.  I have some king oyster bags fruiting right now, sterilized hwfp with varying supplements (coffee grounds, wheat bran, brf).  Some pinned like mad in the bags and now it appears there are lots of misshapen mutants in these bags.

This is from a clone culture, agar to wbs.  I am still working on my agar and contamination recognition skills so I am not entirely confident my spawn was free of bacteria.  Is it possible contamination could cause this? Or can you oversupplement kings as you can with shiitake?  Thank you, anyone, for your insight into this.

Looks like typical in vitro pins. Now that you opened the bag most of them will abort and some will grow as expected. Looks like a nice grow. Post more pics later on.

Ok, thanks for the reply.  It just looked so different from my first set of bags I wasn't sure if something was up...Sure, I will post some more pics as they get bigger.

Just out of curiosity, are you doing anything to increase humidity? I'm just asking because I'm in the same position myself, it's my first time King Oyster grow, and I'm at about the same stage as you. I've have conflicting information about whether to fruit them in open air, or in a humidity chamber. I read that they like open air, but they're telling me to put it in some kind of humidity chamber. I'm pretty much fruiting them in open air at the moment, though I guess the bag itself acts like a sort of humidity tent and I seem to be getting 90+% humidity in the bag, so I'm ignoring the advise for the moment.

If you can keep the bag moist it is better than a closed chamber. Looking good so far too.

Kingz will fruit in vitro. The base will be fat and have a small cap.

Open air = big cap smaller stem.

I would actually prefer fatter stems. So are you saying I'm doing it wrong - I should have them in some sort of humidity chamber?

Im saying you can fruit them in a sealed bag. I use xlg bags so they have room. After cutting top of bag open they will still limit oxygen. I dont put bags in anything but a cold room. Make sure they stay moist, kings use quite a bit of water.

My bag isn't sealed, it's completely open at the top. If I understand correctly, maybe I could put a rubber band around the top of the bag, and just put a slit in the bag to limit oxygen to achieve thicker stems? As I understand it then, it comes down to a matter of preference whether you want bigger stems or bigger caps as to whether you fruit in open air or not? Is there a difference in yield depending on whether they are fruited in open air or in a chamber?

He means the bag open. If you close the bag you get pins on the fruits and inedible in general. Yield is not affected as long as you provide enough humidity. Also lower temp helps.

Not really,  a difference. With bag open it just uses more moisture. If you have a filter patch bag they will get enough air without cuts. The bag standing open will limit oxygen somewhat.That picture was with bags that were just standing open.

Here is a king growing in a sealed filter bag xlg. Not inedible , much like asian king growers look.

Correct but not for the unicorn .2 micron filters. They don't allow for edible growth. I think it is better open just like you have it.

Thanks, I think I'll just do that then. I'm not too concerned really, I have follow up grows already in the process, and I'm open to a bit of experimentation.
