Super fuzzy feets and wtf is that?
    #25782653 -

I jst think it's cool how fuzzy these are.

And wtf is that? There are a few of these in my tub. Looking like some weird ass spider egg.

Everything is starting to go haywire in this tub. Fruits never did grow tall. The vails are odd. There is a super pronounced seam bout half way up them.

Fuzzy slippers are ok, but when they're wearing tube socks (like many of these), they need air... slack off misting, and only mist enough to return a glisten on the surface while allowing evaporation to occur between mistings to stimulate pinning and avoid over-saturating the substrate... if your talking about the snot look, it's bacteria IMO... it's too wet  and needs air... with some evaporation,  the fruit should mature larger quickly... if they're not struggling fighting bacterial infection: which is prevelant

Ok, this is a perfect oportunity for me to finally get this strait. Pls work with me on this.

That glistening effect doesnt stay for more that 5 min. But im not gonna stand there are mist every 5 min, nor wud the sub appreciate that. So what am i to make of this advice?

So the flipped lid on this tub doesnt cause enough FAE? Ok. I have basically jst slid the lid off a bit, so about a third of the top is clear open.

So my PE tub hasnt started pinning yet. It's hanging out one rack directly below this catastrophy. Im willing to bet then that i prolly need to flip the lid upside down and possibly expose a third like this tub. What say you?

What caps said :headbang: BUT! You may have a bit of bacteria grabbing you by the nutsack, which is causing you to experience something you did not expect? IMO, bacteria may not kill your tub, but it can do weird things to your fruitbodies. Bacteria is ALWAYS  there, a little or  a lot, and it can cause havoc, sometimes it kills your grow, and sometimes it just does weird things to your fruit.

That aint glistening. That's drenched. You want it to be very lightly glistening and mist whenever it's dry. Too dry is better than too wet. A few passes at least a foot high twice a day is all you need. Ideally you dont wanna mist, but once it's at this stage, surface moisture wont stick and it needs a misting twice a day.

Well i had some time away today. Left it like this for like 5hrs.

Totally dried it out. As you can see my PE sub coagulated on top. Even injured it. Turning blue, among other nasty colors. Started fruiting conditions on the 18th. Hopefully im lucky and she wakes early.

B+ was pretty dry also. The mycelium lools odd now on this one. Like, not enough soft cheese spread over a dry ass piece of toast.

So i thnk i'll try lids flipped but covered when im running my fan. I thnk thats whats happening, im jst to stoned to pick up on it. I thnk it's prolly fine with the lids pulled off a bit when the fan isnt on. Have to test. I like fan drying my harvested fruits. Makes them look rad.

Fan is on the other side faced down into drying bin.

I wouldn't've opened so much, and certainly wouldn't have the fan on it... don't make drastic changes, they respond quickly and dramatically... run the fan (if you must, id try without and see if it's even necessary: add it back with any signs of insufficient FAE/evaporation) away from the tubs ... maybe in the doorway facing outward as to draw CO2 laden air out near the floor of the closet... maintaining surface conditions is likely going to be a PITA at this point... just mist lightly, only when it needs it... Just returning surface moisture, not to rehydrate...

No fan, just lids flipped from day 1, no misting. That's what I would do. Why is your sub cracked in half? Try to remember this is a living organism and you don't need to fuck with it. Just hive it food, water, and a place to live at the beginning and then just sit back and watch it thrive.

I cut it in half to make easier to move around to get side/bottom pins. These be my first tubs in a completely different set up. Almost like starting from scratch.

Pretty sure i got it now. Thnk i jst had to get to the point where i was kinda pissed off. I knew this B+ tub was gonna get hammered cuz it be my first tub with new set up. I can see where i went wrong with the PE so far, but im pretty sure i got it down now. Thnx yall.

Re: Super fuzzy feets and wtf is that? [Re: Caps McGee]

So now i finally understand that if i mist any more than what is necessary to keep the sub from drying on the top then it's too much. Other than letting the sub get to where it looks like it cud use a spritz, i have no other way of knowing when to/not to mist.

Im super impressed with this tub. I put it through hell, it's on it's 4th flush, and it's still pinning. Got some aborts happening though.

And im still having an FAE issue me thinks.

This pin was left over from the last flush so the others are not so fuzzy, but still.
I replaced the clear packing tape covering the two 2" mod holes in the "front" of this tub with that medical spore tape shit so we'll see if that helps. Cuz other than that, if i choose to continue to use this grow area, the other options i have are prop the upside down lid up with spacers a little at a time until no more fuzzy stockings.

How is there suppose to be FAE with a no mod tub anyway? When i open the lids of my tubs, the air inside is warm and humid and seems stale.

My lids are flipped. When i lift the lid the air inside comes flowing out. Its warm, wet, dank air.

Im trying to figure out proper FAE now.
My PE tub is doing it's thing. It's got some bacteria going on but the myc is strong and it jst needs to fucking pin already. Been almost 2 1/2 wks.

That tub is easy to deal with as far as misting. I jst let the sub surface start to lighten a shade or two then i onw it needs a spritz. But what of the FAE. This B+ tub smells like mildew and is def on its last flush. I dnt want to have the same FAE prob with the PE.

Turn the lid slightly so that you have a gap in opposite corners too small to put your finger in... increase in increments as needed... you can dial FAE from nothing to open air in this fashion

Oh! thats all?
I thought FAE meant there had to be some kinda air flow exchanging stale air with fresh air, otherwise it's gas exchange. Actually i dnt knw the difference lol

So i'll know the sweet spot when..? I have to mist once a day to keep from drying out? I only have to mist my PE tub once a day so the surface doesnt get too dry. Does this mean i have found the sweet spot for that tub?

Re: Super fuzzy feets and wtf is that? [Re: Feasoghorm]

Cubes have a high CO2 tolerance factor. Tilting/skewing the lid like Caps^ told you will give you all the FAE, (or free air exchange) you need. Lots of new growers make the mistake of using fans or whatevs to blow air all over the joint in an attempt to increase FAE -you don't need that. It is EZ to over think these things, so don't feel bad.

Keep things moist but not wet, allow for some air to enter your tub, and you should be rockin' it in no time. There is a bit of an art to the whole deal, but it becomes second nature as you gain experience.

You seem to have the proper attitude towards this, so don't sweat it!

i haven't fooled with non mod tubs enough to tell you the sweet spot with them. I tried a few times was already used to the standard mono setup so just kept rolling with it. I don't have to mist my monos at all until after the first flush unless i "put into fruiting conditions" at spawning.

I hear ya verum subs...  It just goes to show the various ways that cubies can be grown. One tek comes out claiming to be the best, and then sooner or later another tek comes out refuting the old grow concepts. Personally, I grow in dishwasher tubs placed inside of a fruiting chamber (ice coolers). I never recommend my method though because nobody else is doing it, and IMO the best info is the info that will get the best results for the masses.
But there is info that is common to all ways of growing, whether it be modified tubs, unmodified tubs, or something else entirely! The free exchange of info is what keeps me coming back to this site.:headbang:

Gas exchange is on a molecular level, and generally applies to spawn: the substrate produces heat through metabolism, which churns the air though convection currents... this action iys enough to provide FAE with the lid cracked

Didn't read the thread but that tub is drenched in the first post. That's why they look goofy and the pinset is sparse.

I personally don't think fuzzy feat has really much to do with FAE at all. Open air grows get fuzzy feet. There's different kinds too. Most of the time it looks like the mycelium is trying to make extra surface area to evaporate off excess moisture at least that's my guess. But ive seem grows in bags without fuzzy feet and grows open air with. So the FAE thing doesn't really add up for me.

i think i may agree. I've got some cultures that go fuzzy as all get out no matter what i do with the fae and some cultures that don't fuzz no matter what. Once again, GENETICS GENETICS GENETICS. I do believe it may be the most overlooked thing in a magic making.

Re: Super fuzzy feets and wtf is that? [Re: verum subsequentis]

Well it appears that if i gap the upside down lid on my tubs then i get dried out spots under that gap.
I thnk i jst got confused. I thnk i was really scared to let the sub dry a little so i misted a bunch.

Also something i failed to mention is that these are 105qt tubs and i winged the amount of ingredients for the bucket tek and thr subs were super fucking dry. I poured water down the sides and both the subs sucked it all up. Most at first, the last bit slowly.

So ive fairly well jacked up these tubs, but it's normal for me to fuck up a bunch the first time around, thats why ive not bothered to get married. I'd have to do it twice to make it work.

First PE pin! Fat little bastard too. Jst popped outta nowhere. I cant find any others.

Re: Super fuzzy feets and wtf is that? [Re: Feasoghorm]
    #25794281 -

I'd highly recommend shoeboxes... lots of eggs in one basket there... anything larger than about 60qt seems to be more difficult to achieve uniform conditions across the surface... you could fruit 2-4 times the amount of spawn in the same space using shoeboxes stacked in 3's, and wouldn't be out so much time and resources when something goes south... there are reasons we do things the way we do, and why you don't see huge tubs... don't be afraid to let the surface dry a bit, evaporation is a pinning trigger and can't occur if you mist obsessively... don't know of many places in nature that it rains heavily everytime a spot on the ground dries up... realize that it's a living creature that has evolved in nature, and that it's a very tolerant species... set them up with clean spawn and field capacity coir only and LEAVE THEM ALONE! LOL

Also, just bc something is typical for you (messing up the first time) doesn't mean  it's determined to be... especially self aware... better prepare yourself in the future for your own shortcomings (like in general, not just cult, something the mushroom has also taught me lol) :goodluck:

Now that's interesting. First time I've seen someone refuting FAE as a cause for fuzzy feet. I'm in the middle of trying to fruit some cakes and one of them has a bit of fuzzy feet showing. I thought I was giving them more than enough FAE so I was a little confused. I definitely think I've been over misting so bod's hypothesis is making sense to me...

I am in the same predicament currently, but have learned quite a bit about FAE from this thread, very informative and I thank you all.
Couple questions still though. Is the fuzzy feet something that will go away after a bit of time now that my lid is slightly open?

And if not, is there something I should do instead to get rid of it from here on, or will they be fine to harvest when they are complete even with the fuzz?

Thanks again!

That's interesting that people are digging up this thread wanting to know about fuzzy feets. In my limited experience B+ is a fuzzy footed variety in general.

You shud know that i absolutly hammered that B+ tub!

That pic of the pin thats got myc climbing half way up it was what popped out right before it went under. That tub smelled like a bums nutsack. I was over misting and playing with the lid and teasing sweet lady Trich...which eventually took the sub.

Yeah, this is my first time, and I do have a few of those in there. Its fuzzy at the feet, and then again halfway up the stock, then right under the cap. Im just learning and trying to do thorough research. Every time I see some new change, like bruising, spores released, and now fuzzy feet I freak out thinking its all going bad.

Im not misting either, just adding some water to the perlite when it feels kind of dry to the touch. 71-75 degrees in the tub, and 97 percent humidity.

Sounds like not enough fae. Ur fine tho. Fuzzy feet is just mycelium. It has a wierd texture when it's dry, but d oesnt hurt anything.

I've found that If u increase the fae a little after ur pinset fills in, and I mean like, when the whole tub has pins and they're beginning to all start growing upward, the won't get nearly as much fuzz. But u wanna wait till after ur pinset develops to increase fae.  And u can slowly increase it day by day. I'll learn, it's all about experience.
