Evaporation questions?

I live in an apartment complex
I have a large glass pyrex dish

What i usually do is make a set up yo where my hair dryer is propped up on sometbing and angled down on the isopropyl in the dish
Tbis takes hours and smelles up my whole apartment complex last time

I just got this little thing idk what its called but its like a little burner with a small glass dish it has a gauge to controll the heat
Is that ok to use ? And if so what temp shoukd i put it at and is there any way to aliviate the smell
If i put the burner thing by an open window with a fan will it be too noticable smelling outside?


Description of burner :

Its made of a hard cast iron like material
Its a square shape and stands 4.5 inches tall and 8-9 inches long
There is no cover at the top or anythung just a square inward space to put the small glass dish which is exposed at the top as agaib there is no roof or true top to this
It comes with a little tenperature thing to control the heat
Goes from 200-400 degrees
And has a "warm" setting

If you need to keep the smell on the down low try a d-limonene as your solvent, it just smells of oranges.

you dont evaporate with heat, you just place a fan over the pyrex dish.
I find putting the pyrex dish into the dehydrator on a cool temp to be the fastest way

you can use a water bath (common chemistry and cheesecake technique) to heat it up more gently while evaporating too. water reaches a max temp of 100C while boiling so you won't burn it so long as there's water between your pyrex dish and the heat source. (you can also go below boiling temp if you want.)

obviously if you use iso, it's going to stink of iso no matter what your evaporation method. you'll have to do it outside or next to a window with a fan sucking the air out. thankfully it's pretty hard to smell even a short distance away if you do this, since it's an open space and the iso is going to float away into the wild blue yonder. just watch for where the wind is blowing - if there's a strong breeze blowing from your window to a neighbor for instance, they might smell it.

you can also use everclear or grain alcohol to evaporate. more expensive, but it might be less smelly? i don't drink so i can't say how smelly vodka is.

you might be able to use the burner thing you have to evaporate but i'd be leery of it... if only because the heat source is direct instead of indirect. (heat source to glass, instead of heat source > buffer like water > glass) if the heat isn't precise, and just goes for "average temp" you can wind up with hot spots that are much hotter than the surrounding areas and possibly burn your tar. not a good thing. without a picture i can't really say if it would be a good idea or not.

not such a good idea if you plan on evaporating it in the cooker itself directly. besides the somewhat direct heat (sorta... probably less direct than an open flame, and more even cooking), there's the issue of getting the tar off the actual slow cooker afterward. the reason people use pyrex dishes is not only because it's a heat resistant, wide and shallow container that's great for evaporating...but because you can use an xacto knife or the like to scrape the darn stuff off afterward!

ceramic dishes have a glaze that is probably more easily scratched than pyrex. plus since it's deeper you'll probably have a harder time digging down and scraping it off, especially since the sides are round instead of squared. (mostly)

if you find the right size pyrex dish i suppose you could probably float the dish with your solution inside the crockpot and turn it on high to heat the water, but slow cookers generally don't put out much heat - if you take the lid off they tend to cool rather rapidly. and taking off the lid kind of defeats the purpose of evaporation.

it miiiight work but not that much better than just blowing a fan on the dish directly at room temp.

you can do what i did and get a very large pot (i used my pressure cooker, a dutch oven would work better though), a smaller pyrex dish thats just big enough to fit inside without touching the sides directly, some mason jar lids or something to keep it from touching the bottom of the pot, and a 10$ electrical coil burner from walmart or whatever that you plug in. box fan optional, but useful. put the burner on a nonflammable surface like metal, preferably elevated somehow so it's not touching carpet or wood. just for safety's sake. level surface obviously.

plug in the burner, put your pot on it, fill it with water and add the mason jar rings or other nonflammable nonmeltable things you're using, add the dish on top of those. have it so the water is surrounding the outside of the pyrex dish but obviously not going to boil into it, defeating the purpose of evaporating. fill your dish with your extraction, point the fan at it if using (or better yet, away toward a window, so that it sucks up the fumes from the intake side and blows em out) and turn on the burner. crank it up, because even at max the things are just barely going to be able to boil water, and the water buffer will prevent the mescaline from burning.

as long as you keep the water level up so the dish isn't getting exposed to dry or direct heat, the hottest the solution will reach is 100C, the same as the water it's immersed in. it will actually probably be less than this for most of the time, as iso has a lower boiling point than water and will be evaporating fiercely off as white, iso-stinky fumes. i evaporated about 3 and 1/3 quarts of extract in about 6 hours this way, and this was outside in sub-zero temps.

if it goes on too long you may see light brown powder forming, as the tar evaporates further (basically all the water evaporated out.) as far as i know it's not burnt and still active, just fully dried. from what i hear tar turns into powder after a while, but as this was my first time, i can't say for sure. it didn't smell burnt though, just reeked of cactus - so i presume it was still fine. :P was a bitch to scrape off though.

my tar/powder mix worked just fine. my trips with it weren't as strong as my powdered cactus dose, but then again, that was 45 grams powder vs 33ish grams powder equivalent extracts for the tars... so that's kind of expected heh. i definitely tripped from them though.

just take cactus slowly, whatever way you take it. i dosed mine over an hour and a half with the tar. any faster than that and the nausea was overwhelming.

I just may do that 3 and 3 quarts worth ? Hm is that ?
I only have one 70 G  dose to evap
Also sounds like a good evap method and I honestly have a good set up for that too

I suppose my last question would be regarding the crystals
Is there anyway to get the pure Mesc crystals out my ISO mix before I evap ? Or is there something I do to the tar body after ?

i don't know how to do a crystal extraction, i'm afraid. 3 and 1/3 quarts is a lil over 3/4 of a gallon, or uh.... somewhere around 3.2 liters? that was about 145 grams dried powder extracted, so you might wind up with about half the amount...or not. depends on how much iso you use, how many pulls you do, etc.
