IME Cubes do great with Coir using something like the 50/50 tek. If you were doing something like Pan Cyans you would need poo if I remember my reading correctly.

assuming you are talking about cubes... coir. It's not better it's just way easier and arguably just as good

definitely talking about cubes...
could cow manure be good for the cubes if pasteurized correctly with additives like gypsum?

Personally, I use Hpoo ( farm, not bagged) coir/ verm/ gypsum 1:1:1:.1 get the best of everything. Be certain to use a tad of hydrated lime if working with manure to raise ph( pickling lime) i use about 3.5 tablespoons per 5qts.
There are easier, and more basic subs that work just fine, such as coir and verm. I get poo for free, and it's convenient to get,so why not.

I use aged HPOO from a horse farm 2:1:1 Hpoo:coir:Verm. Very forgiving and extremely happy with results in shoeboxes. 2-5% gypsum (ground drywall minus the paper) by volume. I don’t test pH just let it rock.
