Tiny blue spot on colonizing jar...help!
    #2577468 - 04/19/04 12:55 PM (13 years, 7 months ago)

so my jars were colonizing for about a month, stopped, and resumed once I discovered gas exchange was necessary. During the stall, a small blue streak is now present in 2 of 10 jars(jars are 85% colonized, and the streak does not appear to be spreading). Should I worry and isolate these jars, or has this happened to any of you? Like I said it doesn't appear to be spreading, and the blue streak is thin, faint, and 1/2 an inch long. Can the colony protect against minor infection like this?

I would definitely isolate the jars, if the contamination is small then the mycelium might be able to fight it off but its always better to be safe than sorry.

Get them away from the others. I would chuck them, but at least isolate them from the uninfected.

It sounds like bruised myc to me. Blue and yellow are colors that are often mistaken for contamination. Blue is usually just bruised myc (This happens when the jars are handled, when they are too dry or when they are too wet... it also happens after harvest). Blue can happen almost any time. Yellow is myc piss... as the myc eats the substrate... it excretes a yellow liquid.

Good luck
