My First time using agar grow log

Hey everyone, so this is my first go at growing with agar. Im using pastyplates and gonna go with bods simple shoebox tek.

I have the plates in the PC now. I will post pics as i go.

If anyone has any reccomendations or anything please let me know.

OK so for somewhat of an update to whoever looks at this.. Its been 4 days since i nocced up my plates and im not noticing any growth whatsoever.Am i getting anxious or does it just take longer than this to see some colonization start.

3 days to 3 weeks is standard for germination times ime, I wouldn't worry.

Start some more plates to kill the time. I know softer agar is usually better for germination.

Thank you very much. Im not too sure how stiff mine is. I followed the tek to a T. Im in the northeast so ive had arctic weather the last few days and that probably has alot to do with it. I keep the temperature at roughly 68 degrees throughout the winter.

68 is fine, things may run a bit slower, but that's about the worst.

What's the recipe you used? I normally do 10g agar per 500ml, but for germination plates I cut it back to 6g

I have only made two sets of 10 plates so far with experimenting with Agar. So like you brand new to this.

My first plates, I made kind of soft and hit them with spore syringe. It took about 8 days to show growth.

Second set (which was just on the 31), I made my Agar pretty hard and hit it with spore syringe. The spore solution is still rolling around on the plates.

All plates stored around 69F

Good luck on you experiment. Agar has become very addictive to me now. It's a lot of fun.

Another question i have is can i sterilize my spore syringe needle in the pc the same way i make the plates? And/or at the same time when i do my next set of plates for transfers. Just wondering because i still have almost a full syringe and dont wanna waste it.

Just flame the needle red hot to sterilize. Then push out a couple drops onto your SAB floor, to cool the needle

You just leave the needle on a syringe after its been attached. It gets flamed every use

Ok so its been almost 2 weeks now and still not a sign of any kind of growth on my plates. I definitely did something wrong. Will post pics in a bit.

I take that back, there is growth starting on 1 of my plates. Too early to tell if it is mycellium or not. Hopefully will be able to tell later today.

Awesome, hopefully its good.

I would make my first transfer as soon as I can tell its healthy mycelium. Try to take a piece no bigger then a grain of rice.

It's only about the quarter of a dime in size at the moment. Hopeing to have more growth my mom bring to do a transfer.

That is my only plate that has any growth.. It looks a little like mycellium to me but not 100% sure.

So with a brighter light and better view its definitely mycellium, so thats a plus. How much longer should wait wait to do a transfer?

Ok so my plate ended up getting contaminated. So gonna start a new batch this weekend. I think it had something to do with the way i brought pressure up in the PC (if that makes a difference). I also noticed my paper towels stuck to the tape which im sure also played a part in contamination.

Another question i have for anyone is does it matter if im using transpore tape and not micropore tape? or are they basicallly the same thing?
