You need to see the graph on the datasheet for that blower to find out what it pushes @ 1.0'SP
I couldn't find a datasheet download for that model blower though.

You will want a blower that pushes at least 400CFM @ 1.0SP , probably around 500CFM.

For a 24 x 24" filter face, I would look for a Dayton 1TDU2

The 1TDU2 will be too powerful at 1.0-1.2SP (.2 for the pre filter), from what I can see on the blurry graph 1.2SP it would push about 868 ish?? CFM. But you can power it down. You can add another pre filter or two- at 1.6" SP it pushes 450CFM

And it says it pushes either 1000 or 1020cfm @ 1.25 sp but i may be looking at the wrong info.

The reason i was looking at this blower specifically was because i found one significantly chrape

But if it turns out it wouldnt work ill go with your recommendation.

I was also wondering if a blower with too high cfm rating was harmful to your flowhood?

I edited my post above before you posted again.

I saw that spec you have there, it doesn't have the graph, I don't think that number you have there is right.

Yes if its like way too powerful you can damage your filter. Blowers are usually listed with a CFM rating, but that is just what it pushes at free air (0.0"SP)
But to get laminar flow for a filter with a 24 x 24" filter face you need a blower to push at least 400 (but preferably 450-500) CFM @ 1.0 - 1.2" SP (.2 for prefilter)

The blower I recommend does push too high, you will just have to restrict the air going into the blower intake to power it down

Thanks for the help mushpunx! I was able to find the recommended blower online but it doesnt show any cfm information past 0.8 sp.

I was also wondering, the static presssure of a hepa is always counted as 1? Regardless of thickness? Like a hepa at 6" thickness would have the same static pressure as a 12" hthick hepa?

You do the math off the area of the filter face. From what I understand the reason the 6" and 12" deep filters can use the same blower is the 12" deep filter has less resistance.
These HEPA filters typically work between .08-1.2" SP. The blower I recommended will work at those, you will just have to adjust the amount of air intake more or less. The filter *should* come with specs, or have it printed on the filter. 

Which Datasheet are you talking about? For the 1TDU2? The sheets usually list the CFM only up to .08"SP, you will need to read the graph on the datasheet, it's at the top right corner.

That filter isnt good enough for a flowhood. I think it has 95% efficiency, it is designed for duct filtering in air conditioning systems not flowhood or lab use.

Yep, I just looked it over too- OP I didn't look at your filter I just assumed it was a HEPA.


That is a MERV rated filter, you want a HEPA filter instead.
A HEPA will be a minimum 99.9% efficiency down to .3 microns.


Something like this is what you want :

And as long as your HEPA has a filter face that's 24 x 24" it should match the blower I recommended.

that's a furnace filter


all the info and math(just multiplication) is in my flow hood TEK thread. I know it sounds mean but if you can't figure out the flow hood math you're not going to be able to build the hood anyway. all you do is take your filter turn it into feet. so 12x24 is 1x2 multiply your feet together to get square feet. so that's 2 square feet. you wan't 100 feet per minute. feet per minute times surface area gives cubic feet per minute so you need 200CFM for a 1x2 filter. you need that 200CFM at the resistance of the filter. so a blower needs to push 200cfm at 1" w.g. but filters clog up over time and pre-filters add resistance so ideally you want a blower that can push at the very least 20% more CFM so 240cfm at 1.2-1.4" to account for the added prefilter. if you get a blower that can push more CFM or at a higher W.g. that's great because you can always throttle it down or stack more pre-filters etc...
