Is Koods still saying this isn't a ridiculous coup attempt?

CARACAS, Venezuela —One of the most severe power outages in recent Venezuelan history stretched into a second day Friday, with hospital patients languishing in the dark, most supermarkets closed and phone service largely out in the oil-rich but economically collapsing country.

President Nicolás Maduro blamed the outage on sabotage by the U.S. government, which has backed an opposition effort to force out the authoritarian leader. He offered no evidence for the claim. He ordered schools and offices closed Friday because of the blackout.

The power outage affected most of the country, bringing the already fragile economy grinding to a virtual halt. Most stores and restaurants were closed, and streets in the crowded capital were virtually empty.

Maduro, in a tweet late Thursday, cast blame for the outage on foreign intervention.

“The power war announced and directed by U.S. imperialism against our people will be defeated,” he wrote.

If the US hadn't frozen billions of dollars in assets, and put sanctions on Venezuela, they would certainly be more equipped to deal with infrastructure problems.

So yeah, that's a fairly safe statement to make.

I'm sure if we were to freeze your bank accounts, and limit your ability to purchase goods and services, you wouldn't be able to repair or maintain your vehical.

Venezuela is run by a corrupt and incompetent dictator. Let’s place the blame for his failed state exactly where it belongs.

Stop falling for his pathetic propaganda . It’s embarrassig how dumb the left is when it comes to this issue.

Except that he's not a dictator. You have no interest in placing blame where it belongs. I don't know how you can possibly be making the argument that freezing billions of dollars of a small country's assets, and imposing sanctions on them does not have devastating repercussions.

I'm not here arguing that Maduro is some great leader, but I find it funny that you refuse to acknowledge the role that the US has played in the current situation in Venezuela.

I guess I should ask you, if Maduro is so terrible, why are the military and the people backing him? Less than one percent of the military have sided with Guaido.

I was harsh. Way too harsh.

My point was, we're getting nowhere debating these things on the shroomery. That's why I spoke against both koods and Bigbadwoof who had complete opposite opinions on these matters. On every political forum on the Internet they're debating the same thing. Right/left. And nothing happens. The same crap politicians dictate the world. And we whine about it.

When I see koods and Bigbadwoof I see two men competing to be right.

I want koods and Bigbadwoof to find common ground, so we can make a foundation.

But when I'm harsh like that, I help no one. Shame on me.

Up a little more.....

http://news.trust.org/item/20190309205620-dfuso

Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido on Saturday called on citizens nationwide to travel to the capital Caracas for a protest against socialist President Nicolas Maduro, as the country's worst blackout in decades dragged on for a third day.

Addressing supporters in southwestern Caracas, Guaido - the leader of the opposition-run congress who invoked the constitution to assume an interim presidency in January - said Maduro's government "has no way to solve the electricity crisis that they themselves created."

"All of Venezuela, to Caracas!" Guaido yelled while standing atop a bridge, without saying when the planned protest would be held. "The days ahead will be difficult, thanks to the regime."

Activists had scuffled with police and troops ahead of the rally, meant to pressure Maduro amid the blackout, which the governing Socialist Party called an act of U.S.-sponsored sabotage but opposition critics derided as the result of two decades of mismanagement and corruption.

Dozens of demonstrators attempted to walk along an avenue in Caracas but were moved onto the sidewalk by police in riot gear, leading them to shout at the officers and push on their riot shields. One woman was sprayed with pepper spray, according to a local broadcaster.

The power flickered on and off in parts of Caracas on Saturday morning, including the presidential palace of Miraflores, according to Reuters witnesses. Six of the country's 23 states still lacked power as of Saturday afternoon, Socialist Party Vice President Diosdado Cabello said on state television.

"We're all upset that we've got no power, no phone service, no water and they want to block us," said Rossmary Nascimiento, 45, a nutritionist at the Caracas rally. "I want a normal country."

At a competing march organized by the Socialist Party to protest what it calls U.S. imperialism, Maduro blamed the outages on "electromagnetic and cyber attacks directed from abroad by the empire."

"The right wing, together with the empire, has stabbed the electricity system, and we are trying to cure it soon," he said.

Several hundred people gathered at the rally in central Caracas for a march to denounce the crippling U.S. oil sanctions aimed at cutting off the Maduro government's funding sources.

"We're here, we're mobilized, because we're not going to let the gringos take over," said Elbadina Gomez, 76, who works for an activist group linked to the Socialist Party.

Well, it's good to see that they are capable of occasionally telling the truth on this matter. Fox News can't say the same. Maybe they'll finally come out and admit that Guaido is a 'toadiey' of the American government, also! :smirk:

So two weeks after alternative media reported this EXACT same story (and after Tipote posted it in this very thread), the NTY finally got around to mentioning what was long known.

It's one of the many corrections we've seen from the NY Times for piss poor reporting.

The damage has already been done, sanctions have already been imposed on Venezuela, and I'm curious how many NY Times readers will even see this video.

HEY ECSTATIC - how did you find this video?  Did you see it while browsing the NY Times, or did a real (aka 'alternative') news channel point this story out to you?

Standard policy nowadays. If you want to spread propaganda, say whatever you like, and then walk it back later to cover your ass, and maintain 'journalistic integrity'.

The thing is, there is a reason to debate but if people can't agree on reality, it gets tricky. If koods accepted the credibility of a lot of the independent journalism, some of which is superb, then we could at least agree on what the facts of the matter are.. but koods seems reluctant to accept facts and can't accept the nuance of not loving Maduro yet not wanting an invasion (which he is in denial about being a serious possibility). The point of the thread is discussing the meddling aspect. Koods just seems to try to justify it by shitting on Maduro. Bolton can literally say WE WANT THEIR OIL and koods might say its not like that. In the reality of disinformation we live in now, it seems a struggle to establish those basic facts.. and to extrapolate trends from previous actions in Latin America/everywhere. America coming to the rescue is a tired piece of propaganda but many still fall for it. So what middle ground is there? Sounds like its just a reality that koods needs to come to terms with
