Trypt I like that quote in your sig.

It's funny because I could of sworn back in like 2012 when I first got on. I thought we were calling them totes. But I haven't seen the word tote anywhere.
The mandala effect maybe.

ok place yer bets. i put them both on agar yesterday. both fuzzing up this morning. amazing organism.
help me with the idea: why do we clone pins from agar plates? automatically isolating a collection of strains that demonstrates tendency to fruit in adverse conditions? what else?

That's it basically... a guaranteed easy fruiting culture... likely prolific in proper conditions

Edit: remember you mentioned they'd dried recently... be interested in dry weight
No. I thought it would weigh more also. Harvested this Brazilian the other day that was 31g. Not nearly as tall but had a thicker stipe and meatier cap.

As far as dry weight, I cut the tall one up to clone and have the cap printing. Would be hard to get a dry weight. Overall wet weight was just shy of 200g.

When making spore syringes: Is it a big deal if you accidentally suck up small amounts of air when aspirating?
I'm assuming not but wanted to hear thoughts

In a SAB? Shouldn't matter much... just depends on your movement and how low the needle was when you aspirated (how still the air actually was)

I don't think so, I can't help but draw up some air while drawing the syringe and then press it out. Still have ~90% success innoculating cakes with them.

My man. Since I've moved to this new place. I haven't bed. Able to grow shit. Not like I usually do. Not even close. I've tightened up every part of my routine and still. Upon further investigation I've come to realize that my water is quite possibly the vector to my issues. This well water is super hard and smells like a egg fart. Doing these up and coming grows with either RO water or bottled spring.
I half assed tested this theory by using distilled water for coir for 4 shoeboxes. And so far so good. Usy I'd be getting mild right now and instead I have pins. :shrugs:

Distilled water kills humans, wouldn't it also be bad for the fungi?

Yes I know I can weigh the pieces. I’ll see what I have after the cap finishes printing and drying.

You're not gonna die from distilled water unless you a) have serious health (kidney?) issues, b) drink 10 gallons in a day with 0 food and lose all your solubles via osmosis, or c) pump out all your blood in exchange for distilled water
Unless you somehow pump distilled water through your substrate 24 hours a day until all the salts/minerals present in coir/grains/verm have been washed away maybe you'd have a negative effect. Otherwise no
As for the well water problem, maybe collecting rainwater just before you know you're going to be spawning would be an option?

Distilled water is just h2o that means no minerals or electrolytes to take it where it needs to go. If your diet is good you'll be fine

Distilled water isn't necessarily clean, especially not cleaner than most municipal tap water or any bottled water. Just because it was steam at some point doesn't really matter for what happens from the condenser to the bottle minus filtration for cost effectiveness

Those things are true about distilled water yes, but if he's getting water from a well it doesn't sound like access to tap water is a thing, the easiest solution I can think of is rain water (I will admit I forgot about snow for a second there), but I'm sure fresh snow could be used in a similar way by bringing it indoors to melt.
Anyway, my main point was that distilled water is not a dangerous substance to humans or fungi (where did that even come from?) and that rain water may provide a cheaper, easier alternative to distilled/bottled without the single use plastics.
