Smells like paint, or solvent?

I harvested the first flush off of my brf cakes, rinsed, then dunked for 12 hours, and put them back into HC. Up until now they only smelled like mushrooms, like a fresh box of buttons in the produce department. Now the smell is reminiscent of paint, or some sort of solvent. Is there a well known contam with such an odor?  I am about to toss them, but would like to learn all I can from this.

This is my second effort. The first was grain spawn to bulk substrate in two mycobags. Had four flushes, dunking an hour between, and they still smell clean and fresh, though spent after 4+ flushes. Those dunks were in 1 part h2o2 3% to 9 parts filtered water. The problematic brf cakes were dunked in filtered water only.

It's bacterial, but you can carry on fruiting them, its not unusual to small a bit on later flushes..Its just mold you need to watch for

Bacteria does increase the chances it will mold out though, try not to mist it as much, once a day is usually enough, the wetter you make it the better for bacteria it is..also if you're using a SGFC make the sure cakes are on foil with pin holes in it, so any water drains through, not sits under the cake
