2019 Florida actives thread ( No ID request) * 3
    #25759132 - 01/21/19 05:42 PM (5 years, 2 months ago)

I meant to start this off sooner, but here's today's find at a local horse ranch.

You can see the cold spell  didn't touch them.

Hey doc were your recent finds also at a horse ranch? Are you finding them on horse droppings in the field or on compost piles?

Yes, Both, the weather has been really good here, the quick passing cold fronts and rapid warming have caused them to fruit really nice in clusters or big fat fruits.

I have a few places around that allow me access,  I have a 4 county research project I've been working on for the past few years documenting the Agaricales mostly, but I include any fungi that I find for the most part, it's something I really enjoy.

We have a local equestrian center that has good compost for starting outdoor grows, but if they catch you on the piles looking around (there are multiple piles, but only one is for the public to take) they will call the law, I found this out first hand,  but now they know me as a mycologist and gave me access to the whole property.  I haven't seen any actives there, they turn the piles to frequently for anything but conocybe and panaeolus antillarum and I'm there almost daily looking for anything and everything. I find lots of oysters and other nice edibles.
The equestrian center is also where our local sheriff's department trains there working dogs, so, if any locals are reading this, I'm dead serious about them calling the cops or they may be there already running their dogs. If your out there and see a tall thin white dude 8n the bushes, it's probably me, say hello.

I'm in the panhandle,  between Pensacola and the Alabama Florida line on the perdido river. I have a friend in your area and he said that y'all haven't had rain in a few weeks,  so that would be why you're not finding anything. I hunt from the day it starts raining up to 10 days after, if the humidity is high or temperatures are reaching the dew point.

Welcome to the shroomery,  if I was you, I would look for the next several days, if the temperature is anything like it has been here, growth will be extremely slow, what normally takes 24-48hrs will take upward of a week  to mature. I've also noticed that they will hug the paddies staying low when it's cool.

Haha doc, I had some good hauls earlier this month and I almost started this thread but I didn't in deference to you.

So you're searching horse pastures now?  That's awesome!

I only have one field, and its a good field, but perhaps I need to branch out a bit more.  It's been slim pickings lately.

We've flirted with sub-freezing temps overnight a lot lately.  Will that kill the mycelium requiring a whole new life cycle?  I'd imagine not since you're in the panhandle where it freezes regularly and are still finding good hauls

Well thank you, but you can always start the season thread, first find of the year is what matters to me.

I hunt: cow and horse pastures,  river flood plains, oak hammocks, pine plantations, lawns, parks, apartment complex landscaping, business parks, anywhere mushrooms can grow.  Actives are actually a small part of my fascination with fungi.

We need some good rain, the cold front pushing through didn't leave much moisture, but temperatures are forecast to  rise up to early spring like temperatures after tomorrow. Cow patties should flush in the central and Southern parts of the state IF you've had rain in the past few days.

My prediction for the panhandle is that fruiting will cease in the pastures for up to 3wks if temperatures stay above freezing after tonights freeze, but if another 8+ hour freezing temperature front moves through before the mycelium can recover, it will be late spring to early summer before they come back in numbers.

This weather is pissing me off fam.  It'll rain all day but the next three days are dry as a 90 year old nun and 50 degrees.  Extremely unfavorable fruiting conditions for p cubensis.

This weekend is supposed to be warm, muggy and rainy for a few days so I'm excited to come home with more than single digit wet grams for once.

That is not true, I have picked many a cubensis when temperatures are in the mid 30's farenheit at night and 50 in the day time. Growth is extremely slow, but it's there, not in huge numbers but Usually enough for a few people.

It's the dry conditions that are killing my field I think, not the temperature.  I remember back in November having some really good hunts when the temperatures were similar to what they've been lately, but the air wasn't so dry.

Just a quick one chaps.

What's my chances in the south about an hour away from Miami. I'm visiting a friend and I wanna go have a hunt. Will it be worth my troubles. 4384 miles is a bit of a trek for nothing. But then I have posted half Oz of cubes just incase.

The squished mushroom in the 1st two pictures on the left, it was buried underground, found it when I was digging up the patch to give to a friend.

3rd pic is my favorite this year, it actually looks hairy to me in person, all the others are very smooth caps.

How are you finding so many cubes??? I’ve only found one cube since I’ve begun hunting. All the others are pans. I’ve only been going to cow fields. Any idea why I only find pans???

I've been hunting psilocybe cubensis for 35years now, we are very intimate, if you listen they will call to you.

I hunt both cow and horse pasture, horse farms that maintain their stables well are the best. Farms like this will have a compost pile, if they don't turn the compost, it becomes a super breeding ground for cubensis.  As the organic matter breaks down it provides heat keeping the mycelium alive in colder temperatures.

Environmental conditions are perfect right now in my area, the winter has been very mild so far so the season has never ended since the fall flushes started.

I employ a specific search pattern when hunting pasture, I learned it years ago while doing search and rescue in the Coast Guard. My searches are very thorough, taking time to gently move the grass around the patties, searching high grass and wide open spaces.

I know what to look for, it's natural to me, not to mention the biggest kicker, I'm RETIRED,  I hunt every day in woods, pasture, swamps and flood zones.  I have nothing but time. I have a lot of pain so I can't sit still, I use that to my advantage now by focusing on my hobby instead of my pain.

Fantastic finds.  I'm a few hours south of you on the Suwannee River.  You're making me want to go out and find a field here.  I wouldn't think there would be much out right now.  Is your search and rescue pattern just walking a grid?  I do that while looking for arrowheads here in turned up fields.  You're also totally right about the horse dung piles.  A friend of mine had 2 horses and their pile would fruit all year randomly and produce a lot.

I do what is called a single unit parallel search pattern.  Basically, I walk in a straight line, when I get to the end, I move over about  5 feet and do it again until the whole field is covered.  If I deviate from my line, I mark my spot and come right back to it and continue my search.

I should say that I have permission to hunt where I do, so, if you can take your time and hunt, I would recommend using this strategy.  Make mental notes on what part of the field is producing the best and the weather conditions.

Here in the panhandle,  the humidity is going to be up all week with scattered showers, so, if you are up this way get out and look.

Been pretty decent so far, I have about 20 dry grams stored up from all my hunts this year including a few pan cyans but definitely 95+% P cubensis.

We haven't had rain in a week or so though, but the mornings are really misty.  Last time I went out to the field the patties were what I would call "cracker dry"

Doc, is that sclerotia of P cubensis in your picture on the left?  I didn't think that was even a think but that's certainly what it looks like and considering it was found underground too it seems likely

Nah, that's a mushroom, like he said. Cubensis don't form sclerotia.

Doc, is that sclerotia of P cubensis in your picture on the left?

Nah, that's a mushroom, like he said. Cubensis don't form sclerotia.

:whathesaid:
It's a mushroom that couldn't break the surface so it formed abour 3-5 inches under the compost.

Do you always wait until the veil separates before picking?  I kind of feel like the best time to pick is just before that happens.  You get a dense, potent fruit Albeit a little smaller than if you left it a day or two.

No, if fruits are plentiful, I will pick a few pins, but I always leave some too.

Here are some I picked yesterday:
Pan. Cyan  group:

Has it rained in your area in the past few days? Psilocybe cubensis will fruit up to 10 days after rain, especially if the humidity stays above 65%

I took your advice today Doc, I took my time and used a grid pattern around the most prime locations. I thought about your coast guard analogy while really taking my time and enjoying the hike. I have been looking for mushrooms in the same location for just over a year and am really getting to know the location.

. Looking good in here Doc and company!! This is my tiny find so far for 2019 lol.( Actually, I haven't hunted yet, these were in last year's straw and poop pile that is now overrun with betony, wheatgrass, wild onion, etc. Any luck I'll have 10 or so more in a few days.  Edit: I walked down to check the old straw pile after the storm and voila, I missed a few earlier today!

Doc, I'm really digging watching them cohabitate with the stachys floridana. Have you ever tried the rhizomes from them? To me, they are tops when it comes to foraged food. I would substitute them for water chestnuts any day of the week.

Yes, I learned about it from my grandfather, he was always about gathering wild food when possible.

How are you doing?  I found some polypores I need IDed - bright white.  I found some Reishis that were about 5000 years old, and some super old turkey tails.

When do your chickens and chantrelles start popping up?  Lions mane too... that is my white whale, lol.  Any tips or wood types are appreciated.  Also I don't seem to find oysters around here either, but maybe I just have't trained my eye.

Chanterelles start in my end of June, beginning of July. I find 99% of my oysters in the flood plains along creeks and rivers.

The blessings are flowing a handful a day from the straw pile. This is yesterday's and this morning's find. The vegetation is so thick now that I have missed quite a few trying to spot them at night. Edit: While these are totally wild growing, they were encouraged to take hold by spore thumps and stem butts hastily plugged about. It's impossible for me to say, since there's a 500 acre pasture directly across the dirt road. What I do see in these is an overall different look to the standard wilds. They also blue much more .

Check the open areas good, especially under trees where the cattle congregate, keep an eye out for Panaeolus cyanescens  they are out as well.

10 4, I have seen a few very large commons in the past few days. I have a really sweet area to hunt in mind. We can kayak virtually up to the fence and there's roughly 2 sq miles of prime pasture.

I think I'm going to go down to the river and look for oysters and maybe an elusive lions mane.  Doubt I'll see any chanterelles or chickens, but you never know.  Maybe a new reishi patch too.  Arrrowheads too when the water level goes down.

I like the way you framed the shot with the sky and trees in the picture, it makes for a really nice picture, something that would be book/magazine quality in my opinion.

Thank you very much!! I’m glad you appreciate it I’ll definitely keep that kind of angle in mind, just started getting back into photography bringing the canon to the field. It’s a lot of fun.

2&3 captured nice details, do that with the top of the cap and the gills showing where they meet the stipe.

Edit: sorry,  I had a brain fart, I meant to say that including those shots would make for good identification purposes. Other people learn from them.

Next time I’ll try to get pictures of the tops where the gills meet the stipe.
It certainly has been dry around my area. I went again a couple days ago and didn’t have much luck. Only a few tiny or extremely dried out ones. I just look on the bright side, at least I have enough medicine for now and for my most recent finds, I don’t have to use my food dehydrator.

We've seen some of the lowest humidity values I've seen in years here. I believe missing 80% of the tree canopy is exacerbating the already dry conditions. I found a lot of mummified, dark purple to black miniatures lately .

Done lots and lots and lots of walking this year, no signs of growth from any of my hotspots from last year. I’ll find the occasional middle of the field random cube, but other than that it’s been panaleous crazy lately. In my fields I basically wait till I see the Antillirums popping up, and I usually find cubes.

Pretty panaeolus-y for myself lately as well, though the cubensis are seeming to gradually come out in more numbers

Same...  I just went out and found nothing but those big white polypores and fake turkey tails - and those were hard to even find.

We should be good a day after this next batch of rain ladies and gents. I'm aiming to find Lions Mane (my white whale, lol) Reishi, Chanterelles, Chicken of Woods, and of course cubes & blue meanies.

Excited for this summer, should be a good one!

Seems to me that the season would never end for cubensis in your area, as long as there is rain and humidity they should grow down there. I can find them 99% of the year here in the panhandle.

You are 100% correct. We didn't receive too much rain over this past winter, so I really didn't even bother to go out. I just went out due to the recent rain we had. I guess I should say that it is a good start to my hunting season. Lol

48g hunt of P cubensis today.

Here's the thing though.  We've finally been getting some rain after an extended dry spell and most of the fruits I found today were tiny.  Around a gram wet on average.  Not only that, but they've been popping up in previously barren patties.

Are these first flush midgets, which will soon be followed by the spring monsters we all love so much?  Provided of course the weather holds up which it looks like it will.

That one patty where you say, yep, this trip was worth it.

Tiny fruits but it’s a first flush.  I’ll be back to this patty many times over the next few weeks.

Jackpot

Looks like the straw pile is covered in pins that will be about the size of these minis. I suppose enough of them will do the job lol. On the drive by locations I am starting to see antillarums, so hopefully soon I'll find some land of the Giants fruits lol

That's where I'm at for the moment and after this next rain we should be pretty good.  Not sure what part you're at but I'd go out after the next big rain and you'll likely find something if you know where to look.

I've been looking along some local trails and a pasture in south GNV. I'm very new to hunting (like 2 weeks) and I'm pretty excited to find something maybe tomorrow or the next day. Tbh I should try networking with locals who like scavenging for them too haha.

Next big rain and heat that comes, get your farmers permission and go out at night and look along treelines (depending on where you live).

If you're looking for hunting partners, I'll shoot you a PM and show you some of the cool medicinal, gourmet and other neat mushrooms that are around the area if you want.

Alright boyos, Rained hard yesterday and the clouds are closing in for another downpour as we speak. I got permission to go to a cow field last summer but they haven't been responding lately. I am in a huge equestrian area, however. Has anyone here ever gotten permission from horse people? Are they significantly different than ranchers, and is the process of foraging similar? Cause I know they can be particular about their stables.

Got lucky and found a really kind old rancher. Pretty solid for a relatively small pasture.

First off, if you have permission to hunt a property,  to hell with going at night, early to mid morning and you can actually see what you are looking for. Hunting trees areas where the cows congregate is an excellent place to start, 1st few days after rain look in both high grass and open areas, 4-10 days after rain pay attention to the grassy areas including grass knee high to a 6' tall person. Mushrooms will start pinning a day or so before the rain starts and up to 10 days after, especially if humidity is above 60%.

Agree with Doc. Besides, if you wait til night, the ones that have been growing are gonna be far more wilted and sun-damaged. I got up at 8:30am and started driving around at maybe 10 or 10:30. All the cubes I found in that pic were in good condition, and would have been way less ideal if I went at night.

In case anyone needs a reminder not to pick pins.  I ran into this guy and took the advice of a hunter friend and didn’t pick it even though I wanted to

And I’m glad I didn’t because I came back the next day and found the Most beautiful specimen of p cubensis for me so far this season:

The magnificence of this mushroom can be better appreciated by looking at his little brother in the background

And another beautiful patty

Thanks @Heisenburn420

I'm not sure how I keep missing this thread but I'm certainly subbed now.

The more wild cubes I see the more I appreciate the cool stuff you folks find.

These mushroom pictures are out of this world. Thank you guys for sharing I really appreciate it.

Thanks,  I noticed awhile back that cubensis was growing in a neighbor's flower bed, so, I asked him to hook me up with the compost connection.

NOT ONE CUBE ALL YEAR!!!! I'm tired of this damn drought! How the hell does the swamp dry up????? All I need is a solid week of a few rain storms to spark the season, and I can't get any at all.

I watered a few days, hoping that would spur some growth. It's not just cubes, there is NO fungus at all here. I'm glad I stockpiled last year or I'd be as dry as the back yard about now

So after 3 straight days of constant rain and high humidity my field has produced nothing.  I’ve never seen nothing (not even a single pin) after This amount of rain.  Is it possible the hot dry spell killed The mycelia and I’ll have to wait from the point of spore germination?

no, the mycelium is absorbing as much as it can.  any extra water will start fruiting. Be patient give it a couple days

i had the same thought until the last 3 days when it's rained non-stop. i now have a single poo patty producing 6 pins in my yard. patience, bud! they'll still fruit! 😉

Here's a look at today's 20min walk, would have been much better if the wife didn't cut it short.

I put this 5 gallon bucket in the grass so you can get an idea of the depth of grass I'm finding them in. In my 30+ years, I've noticed that in the heat of summer, I find them in deep grass, same can be said when it gets cold.
Don't flatten the grass, part it. Areas of thick rich green grass is indicative of a heavily manicured area and is worth investigating.

My 4-legged landscapers are way too hard working to ever let my lawn grow that tall. Guess I'll have to go hunting or buy a bag of wbs if I want anything decent this year 😔 Last year I could walk outintothe lawn, squat down and just see the caps poking up above the grass all the way across my yard. WAY hotter this year, and that 3-4 week drought we had didn't do me any favors.

Here it comes fellas.  This field will be positively radioactive with psychedelic energy in 48 hours.

Only 22g p cubensis today but I left behind a shitload of pins

Here’s some of the first flush babies, expecting second flush monsters soon after

And it’s supposed to rain all day tomorrow so the patties won’t be drying out any time soon

Noooooo, dry them thoroughly,  if they are bad, they will crumble into powder when handled. They are all cubensis

So i finally found a public area that allows cattle grazing and went to take a look..... im obviously new to hunting but I think I found some actives, but not enough enough to make a great ID.  definitely blue staining, but I feel that since this is public land it may have been overpicked or the conditions I am experiencing on the treasure coast arent yet optimal.  I only got one photo (photo 1) of my actives but I am also curious if anyone might know what the all white shrooms(photo 2 and 3) I commonly find might be.  With the rain today I will be back out and hoping for better conditions, and of course I brought some patties home to monitor (figured it coudlnt hurt).  I know when hunting morels in Iowa there seemed to be a short windowv (a day or two) to find them.... is that typicaly the same case with actives in florida?  Thanks for any info or feedback provided

Rx80, welcome to the shroomery:

1st pictures are of Panaeolus cyanescens group, they will bruise bluish where injured or handled. (Active)

2. Panaeolus antillarum, not active

3. I need to see better pictures of the gills and cap, but it looks like a toxic Chlorophyllum molybdites

If you are detained for picking mushrooms, do not admit that you know what you have at any time or your screwed. Florida supreme court case has set precedence on this, Fisk vs state of Florida

Thank you for the info, and after reading many posts im getting aware of FL law and ignorance claim.  I first want to tnk ya'll for the useful info.  I have been randomly been hunting, which i know is not always optimal for what I am looking for, but never the less it is still fun to hunt and ID.  All just another hobby to pursue.  Here is a random that would be fun to ID, but the myco key didnt show it, which im sure is due to operator error.

any ideas?  I know its not active but still fun....

That's enough for one person to have a full on psychedelic experience.

Panaeolus cyanescens are potent little mushrooms.

Central Florida.  First day going out since a couple weeks.  Tons of pan cyan barely and cube. After reading some of your post doc I’m definitely going to my new friend I met, I go and fly multicopters on his field.  Has some crazy amount of land here literally down the street from my house in _______  I know there are 4 horses and 8 cattle.  But one of the horses is a 4 yr old male name Hercules and he’s an a hole.    I’m really excited to get out in his field this year because it’s in touched.  Dudes cool he smokes dabs but don’t seem like he worry’s about mushrooms.

Doc have you ever had any luck introducing spores to a field or maybe LC, for the most part I feel like nature does a good job, I’ll def be keeping you updated and nice to meet you doc

Nice to meet you and welcome to the thread. If I wanted to "seed" a pasture, I would try a couple different things.

The 1st one I know works, that's putting spores directly into the water and food, spores are not affected in the gut and come out prepackaged in their favorite substrate. This will take about 4 months for the patties to age, colonize and fruit.

#2 use LC or spores to inoculate old poo, it's  a 50/50 chance it will work,  using agar is a waste, other things will destroy it before the myc gets a chance to jump off.

Edit: WARNING: Some people will get highly pissed off if you put stuff in the food and water of their animals,  all though it doesn't hurt them, if one of the animals gets sick you will be blamed,  even though it is not the spores causing the problem.

I like to feed my goats and donkeys a few sm shrooms every couple weeks during the season. If they take them, cool.. they usually happen on one or two just grazing anyway. That's how  they get there in the first place.

Spore print turned out black.  looking at pics of the cincts, it does quite resemble them.  I had one small paddy of the brown ones, which in the pic of them growing is next to a paddy of pan cyan.  I am learning though that within each speicies and depending on the stage of growth, there can be, what seems to me, as huge variations.

The last collection I picked, I went for just pan cyan, or what I thought was pan cyan.  Some were a little more caramel in color in both the cap and the stem.  I also tried to grab ones that had some bluing showing before hand.  Everything I had did show some degree of blueing, but some of the stems didnt have any noticeable blueing in places where the stem cracked.  So I guess my question is, if the stem is damaged, must blueing show at that spot?  If collected in the same container, can blueing rub off on non-active?  I have read that Antillarum is sometimes mistaken for Cyans, most of the pics I have seen its pretty obvious but Im sure I can easily make mistakes at this point.  Thanks for any advice or feed back.

This looks like a mixed collection of Panaeolus cyanescens group and Panaeolus antillarum, most are cyanescens.

Thanks doc, Im starting to see the differences between the copes and antillarum.  Size for one and the antillarum seem to be have a deeper dome shape cap, and lighter gray gills.  I do however toss anything that doesnt blue.  Any other advice or things that one should look for?

Psilocybe cubensis grows side by side with Panaeolus cyanescens, they are not as potent as Panaeolus cyanescens but do not underestimate them.

Gotta say, that's pretty cool to just feed the animals spores.

So nice to see someone's work, finding something growing, during the hottest year on record, and for some like me, driest, ripped apart by someone with an ego complex. Go find your own better pics next time you want to feel superior. Not everyone has had much luck this season.

They are all over there.  Slightly less, but if you know where to look that's prime territory, just learn the weather patterns and do a grid pattern under the best conditions.  They do seem to be getting less and less in Florida relative to a decade ago in my opinion.

:jah: they will grow the world over in tropical and subtropical regions.

Psilocybe cubensis actually means Bald head from cuba.

Psilo=bald cybe= head

Cubensis= being from Cuba.

My field was absolutely flooded with paneolus the other day. Only 1 patch of smaller cubensis were found, but I even found an interesting rather sporeless cubensis specimen that I hope to clone. I don’t have a photo of it, but the gills were rather white with the opened veil having only a small amount of color on it, it was only probably a half inch tall.

Not much for me today, but it is the first cubes I have found, and almost missed as they were buried deep.  Over grown vegetation making it much harder to spot than before, plus it was much drier than I would have thought

For me it just didnt really start until a little later this year, but if I look at the first photos I took last year the dates are almost the same as this year when it started getting good.

Buy Gallon Mason jars instead of quart jars for storage or use an old pickle jar cleaned with vinegar.

Don't let flooded areas stop you, hunt the high spots, there will be something there unless it literally looks like a lake.

I’m from south Florida WPB and  travel through the central region often I always see fields and imagine myself in them finding gold. What’s the experience like finding fields and then actually finding fruits? also where are good roads to study to lead to to potential bases to check out ?

Hey, good to be back, hope everyone is well. I've been busy and sick, it sucks, but I have found some beautiful fruits.

I have a warning for anyone going to an Equestrian center to pick mushrooms because you are being watched, in my particular area they are in the process of hanging Trail cameras around the compost pile and I am NOT saying this just to keep folks away, it's the truth, they are using my cameras.

Recently,  there have been some real shit bags coming back there for various nefarious purposes and it is ruining a nice privilege provided by the county. Between dumping trash, shooting off their guns and dumping stolen property, it has become a problem.  I found a freaking safe someone dumped out there and I think that was the last straw. I have been told that  ANY and ALL  criminal activity will be prosecuted. I love each one of y'all fellow travelers and don't want to see harm come to you in any fashion.  They may get pissed at me if someone finds out that I posted a warning, but it's worth it to me to keep my shroomery family safe.

On another note:
I have received several email messages asking how to approach farmers/ranchers.  My advice is to be honest without volunteering to much information, these people are not stupid and most know what you want.  I study mushrooms and that's not a lie, going out and picking solely Psilocybe cubensis and nothing else is an obvious sign that you are not really studying anything,  but targeting a specific species. Honesty has gotten me more access than anything,  pastures are excellent places for finding edible mushrooms to supplement your grocery bill, I offer to share them when they are found, offer to help out around the place and earn your access, it's a lot of labor to run a farm. Whatever you do. don't start lying because you can't keep it straight and they will catch on, most likely get pissed and think about telling on you or straightforward call the cops the next time you pick.
Be respectful,  don't dress like a druggie  and be clean both in language and appearance. Hope this helps.

Whats up fellas..I'm 3 weeks in - Can tell you hunting has its cardiovascular benefits for sure..There is a pretty big trail {ft. blahbla} trail here in Ltown, have been putting in a few mile walks each day to find accessible field locations..

In reality it takes a pretty big set of gonads to wonder deep into random ranchers property..I find myself doing 100ft circles close to the fence lol..It's probably 1 out of 20 i find actives growing close to the fences..Also, going at night time isn't an option for me at this current time..

So laying out some options-
a.) I do have a 4year health sciences degree,(has nothing to do with biology/micology he he.. Maybe I could use the "I'm doing research line" shoot the rancher/property owner 20$ and ask to wonder his fields to take pictures of "medicinal mushrooms" for great benefit of glorious country U..S..& A - Jokes aside it would be cool to conduct peer reviewed research on medicinal properties micro dosing has on depression/anxiety/ptsd ect..

b.) Continue hopping fences, wander a little further in each time, hoping the paranoia dissipates a little with successful attempts

c.) Drive out to some public trails/gardens where cow/horse poop is public, where the is no risk of trespassing

Anyways, it's all been more difficult than I had originally thought..so I thought I would share my experiences so far

Hey family,

I’ve been popping in on this website for about 3 years know I formally had an account but I can’t access the email any more :frown:
I’m in south Florida and have been hunting roughly 3 times and never came up on anything. I would like to share my experiences and hopefully get some feedback. My birthdays in a few weeks and I’d love to get some healing from some nice fruits.
Recently (2weeks ago) I ventured onto two farms in the night and had a crazy experience.
First me and my girlfriend went and we hoped over the fence and the cows started waddling up to us. We’re a little bit scared and decided to hop back over then they moved back. The field was about an acre in size. After they went back to middle of the field, I decided to give it another try and stayed along a fence and searched. There hadn’t been much rain at the time so maybe that’s why but then again I didn’t search the whole field. I searched another field the same night, this one was smaller in size and fewer cows. I looked around for a little (grid motion) and still nothing. This past week we got a little rain for a couple of days and the humidity has been about 65. I plan to go tomorrow. Wish me luck

Thanks,

Newbie Knox 😎

As a friendly reminder be safe, I went to a friends property recently and went to retrieve a aircopter that crashed as I was out there me and my dad were greeted by the friendly cows but they also brought the trouble maker young bull he was nosey and my dad started walking and saying gyit but he took it as threatening and started a charge prompting my dad to my faster then I ever seen 😂 but moral of the story be careful.

I got to a dstate Park and before hopping the fence I always will clap really loud 👏🏿 and give out some hollers, those cows will run away but this private farm that was a dif story.

If it's raining now you need to start looking and continue to look for 4-5 days up to 10 days depending upon humidity levels,  if humidity stays above 60% they will keep fruiting.

I found it ironic, I posted an update here and 4 hours later ran into shrooms on almost dumb luck..

On one of my "nature walks" I stumbled into the back of some cow pastures..Didn't plan for it at all..Really I was looking for turkey tail, possibly Gyms..

To my surprise I found these guys! Persistence paid off!

Ya, thats what the TI said. I'm not the best with colors lol but getting better at identifying inactive species..I had already ditched what I deemed to be P.Antillarum growing right alongside active pans in the patties. The immediate bluing and going back and looking at pics is best way for me to analyze..

Only issue is I was way out off the beaten paths..Little shroomies bouncing around and breaking apart on my walk back..I don't use plastic bags either

What do you guys use to carry them?

Plastics not good to use, They cant breath. Use a mesh bag, basket, or a paperbag. I like the paper bag, becaue they they drop the spores and you can bury pieces of the bag around other places.

plastic is fine. it's not ike I'm spending 6 hours hunting. a coffee can is big enough to store plenty of oxygen, and if the hunt is successful it's opened every 2 minutes anyway. i hardly think after all the hunts i've used the same can for, it would suddenly pose some unforseen issue. this is a hard sided container, not a celophane bag.

Okay guys,

I had an amazing weeeking send decided that I should check out a refered spot by a family in voulusia county. I made the trip considering all the rain we just had and came up on nothing. I think there was mycelium growing on the cow patties but I’m unsure. I did find non actives but no cubes.

Still no luck this season. How’s everyone else doing?
