First Grow/Post/Question (Thank you Shroomery!)

Howdy fellow Shroomery people and patrons,
I humbly thank all who contribute to this incredible online resource. Becoming familiar with this forum and its functions was a little daunting in the beginning, but has proved to be as valuable as a book by Paul Stamets. Now let’s get down to business!
I inoculated some jars of rye on 12-29-18. Spawned some of the grain to a substrate comprised of coir, horse doody, vermiculite, and peat moss on 1-12-19. About 1 part spawn to 2 parts substrate. Does the growth look healthy? Does it look contaminated? This picture was taken on 1-20-19.

Thank you!

Did you add peat moss directly to the substrate? Or did you case over the substrate with a layer of 50/50 peat moss?

Cause peat has no nutrients for mushrooms and holds no more water than verm or coir, so it's not used in substrates. It's just used in various intentionally non-nutritious casing layers, generally 50/50 with verm or 50/50+. Skip the peat next time and just add more coir or hpoo in its place. When you're starting out you'll have more luck if you follow an established tek to the letter. You can easily use this basic tek Frank's Basic Coir/Verm Tek and just add some hydrated hpoo to the mix.

Thank you! I’m going to put together a small tub this weekend and I’ll try coir/verm/hpoo this time. I’ll be sure to update as things progress.

There ya go. That'll give you better results. Let the one you've got there continue to colonize, unless it contams it will still fruit.

Something bluish/turquoise sprouted overnight in one of the foil trays I was growing. In the picture it just looks like spots but in person it looks like tiny mushrooms about 5mm tall. The color doesn’t show very well in the picture either. I discarded this tray.

Look like a pin mold to me. Can't tell anything specific; discarding was probably the right answer. If that tray were further along (close to fruiting), you can also treat the affected area with H2O2, but keep it away from the rest of your grow.

Thank you for the tip. I will post pictures of other trays as they colonize/contaminate.
