I finally did it. I have questions that need to be answered and planned a pretty big trip. I got 2 other friends and we planned a winter destination. We choose Arkansas but you would almost have to call Eureka Springs it's own world. It's a historic city, in the mountains, built around the turn of the last century, with healing springs popping out the Victorian stone buildings, and a opulent hotel at the highest point built 1886 and is billed as the most haunted in America.
So we planned this out by a month or so, got our airfare booked, booked the haunted hotel, and booked a few more nights in a secluded cabin just outside of town.
We got to the haunted hotel late Friday night- it was a 4 hour drive from LIT airport to get there. We had dinner and one of our members crashed. My other friend and I walked the hotel in the wee hours of the morning. We even gained access to the morgue because the hotel served as a hospital in the early 40's under direction of this quack who practiced psudo-scientific cures based on the towns healing spring water. We were not tripping during said walkthrough and I didn't notice any strange feelings or sights. Nonetheless, I really appreciated the beauty of the property and the cloak of mystery this 34*F, rainy, foggy night brought. It was very quiet in there as winter is their off season.
We enjoyed the hotel but the cabin is where we peeled back the vail- so to speak. I had some changa and we build a fire and watched the DVD's that came stocked. We were laughed hard that night.
The next day we really dropped in hard. We had paper supplies and toured the city on foot. This city has trails that go from parks to stone. Up on street on a rickety boardwalk, behind one huge brick building on stone stairs, across to another on a wrought iron bridge. It really earns it's name- The Magic City.
On every trip I have to have a goal. Everytime it's a real mission to reach said goal and the trip teaches lessons along the way. Our goal was to drink the springs, each with their own qualities (we came up with that idea) and make it to the top of the town where the Catholic Church lay.
This journey was a TRIP. We did drink a lot of springs. We later found out they are not potable and we died laughing about that. We saw some very interesting things. We finally made it to the church which we had to ourselves. When I say the haunted hotel seemed placid let me tell you, this church was teeming with energy. My other two friends felt discomfort but I bit down and just absorbed it. We stayed inside for about 15 minutes. I lit a candle in there and it was a real powerful moment for me - having the responsibility of fire by myself in a building over a century old; continuing the flame onto a new candle. The second most awestriking moment was when I approached a statue in this alcove of the church. The church had all red stained glass so the whole place glowed red. I approached this statue and locked eyes with it. This had to absolutely be my peek. She glowed with a mosaic stained glass look all in her own right. I felt like I was getting absorbed into some kind of wormhole. I won't forget that experience.
We ended up getting some take out from this small buffet. Back at the cabin we ate, cleaned, took showers, and aired out around another fire with a couple drinks.
I don't know exactly what I was looking for in Eureka. I found something but can't even pinpoint it. I'd like to think I now have a heightened appreciation for things and hopefully this was a boost and checkpoint regarding my work. I was happy to experience this with my friends and look forward to future adventures and just growing in multiple aspects of life.
It's a vast ocean out there; suit up.
