It sounds like you are open to the experience. This is much better than trying to control it (IMHO). Based on this I'd agree with Ham and North, wait a couple of weeks and up the dose a smidge or even keep it the same since you had a good experience. I'm glad you have some intention to your use and are providing yourself with a good, safe setting.

These chemicals do open up something, whether a portal to someplace else or a locked door within our minds I don't know. They also "speak" to us and guide us. If we listen good things can happen.

I hope your voyage of discovery sets you on a path where you can get some answers.

Awesome first post oldfart..! I use mushrooms to induce catharsis and have found it to be a very beautiful and useful tool.  I hope you continue to find value in the mushroom experience.

Can’t believe that I stumbled onto your post.  I am 52, also thought only young people were on this site.  I live in central Alabama.    After a life of rule following, I recently became interested in psychedelics last July after reading Michael Pollan’s book “How to change your mind”.  I began to research and get as much information as I could.  Soon discovered Paul Stamets, Terence McKenna, James Fadiman etc.  I do not have a single person that could guide me through this discovery.  I will soon post about my Journey  (thought I would grow them, then THEY found ME).  ...last night was my third time testing the waters.  YES!!! The planets aligned or better yet, peak experience during Total Lunar Eclipse 26 degrees in Alabama alone in the darkness in a hot tub.  The term Cosmic Tickle keeps coming to my mind.

Your journey sounds very similar to mine. Michael Pollan's book is excellent, though my curiosity was first raised a few years ago by James Fadiman's book and by the documentary DMT: The Spirit Molecule. I don't have much interest in doing this as recreation, but if parts of it are fun that's a nice bonus. I hope to use the shrooms as a tool to  help me become a better person alongside other tools like meditation. Once I get the message (if that happens) I may hang up the phone.

Welcome, oldfart and Tripteacher. It's nice to find others on Shroomery who are like me: old, yet noob. We have a lot in common.

I did not have the nerve to try psychedelics in my youth. The recent research proved to me that they are not so scary as I thought, and I am intrigued by the possibilities for "the betterment of well people."

Welcome oldfart! I’m happy to hear you enjoyed your first swim. The experience has to be felt to even begin to understand what they are about. I read and watched videos about the trip but until I felt it for myself I had no idea.

I have only tripped 3 times over the course of the last 6 weeks and have incrementally increased the dose from 2g to 3.25g to 3.8g. I was nervous as you were but found that starting low got me to realize that my mind vibed well with these mushies, giving me the confidence to go a little further down the rabbit hole each time. My last trip was during the lunar eclipse a couple nights ago, and the beauty of the event brought me to tears ( which kind of sucked because it was freezing balls outside and my face was wet). Even today I feel clear headed with a little more pep in my step. I can feel the tangible healing properties working on my brain better then anything else I’ve ever tried.

I wouldn’t bother with a trip setter personally, I tend to be a bit of a loaner, and I find the idea of a stranger sitting there watching me to be unsettling. I would worry about what he thinks and is he judging me, which are all probably BS but it would still bug me.

Bad trips seem to be very rare when you have the proper set and setting so a slightly higher dose should be no problem for you.

Fellow Alabaman here ... there are a lot of psychonauts in our state but getting a stranger off the street for a sitter might be impossible. On top of that I wouldn't ever want to be alone with a stranger while tripping.

IMO a sitter isn't necessary and wouldn't think anything would go awry unless your predisposed to seizures or take medications that might interact.

Roll Tide!, But I'm for Auburn too as long as they're not playing 'Bama. I was pulling for the Tigers all out when they were in the big show a few years ago.

I'm glad you tried it. I didn't need a sitter and started at 3.5g dried, but everyone will have their own individual experience. If you feel you need one, by all means look for one. My first time was away from home so there was no one I trusted around to sit on me. I told a friend back home who have done shrooms before via messenger, and he said he would be there if i needed anything, and said he would check on me later. Sounds silly but just knowing that someone somewhere knew I was tripping made me feel safe.

I also think you should up the dose next time. 3.5 sounds ok to me. I love listening to music. Whatever makes you happy. I love classic rock, and I've found it goes hand in hand.
