I will have a son in a couple months and I haven't picked a name yet. My wife likes different names than I do. We have it narrowed down to like 10 names right now, but it will probably end up being something that isn't even on that list. I suggested the name Burke, but I don't if my wife liked it. I also suggested Sheekle, lol. I think it's easier to name a girl.

I have a tortoise that is named Carl and a cat that I name Meatball.

Hey, congrats on the incoming kid man!  It’s a ton of work and can be tough as hell, but it’s also fun and rewarding.  Go out with your wife now, have fun in these last few kid-free months you have, because once the baby arrives, you’re not gonna be sleeping much, or have the will to go out.  Unless you hire someone else to raise your kid.  And definitely do name it Sheekle, whether it’s a boy or a girl.

As you know:
The first biblical mention of Nimrod is in the Table of Nations. He is described as the son of Cush, grandson of Ham, and great-grandson of Noah; and as "a mighty one in the earth" and "a mighty hunter before the Lord".

BUt beevis and butthead ruined it, lol!

I actually learned recently that “Nimrod” was a legendarily skilled hunter in the Bible.  But no one really knows that these days, so when Bugs Bunny started sarcastically calling Elmer Fudd “nimrod”, people just thought he was calling Fudd an idiot.  I grew up thinking nimrod was synonymous with idiot or moron.  So yeah, that’s a tough name for a kid.

I definitely feel like it’s a parents responsibility to not name their kid something that’s gonna fuck up their lives.  Recently there was a news item about an airline employee who mocked a child named “Abcde” (pronounced ab-city).  Yeah, that’s wrong of the employee, but Jesus fuck, what an awful name.  A lot of civilized countries have banned names and have the final say in things so a parent can’t name their kid something atrocious.

I had trouble liking boys names that were suggested because most of them I knew someone from school with that name, we settled on nice names though not abstract but not common either.

Edit: just reading there about an American professor from the late 1800's called isaac cox. His middle name was joslin. So not only did his parents give him a savage name they gave him a girls middle name. They must've fucking hated him:shrug:

My wife liked the name Emerson, so did I but I also wanted to name him after my dad, John, but also I think Duke is a badass masculine name.  That's how my son earned the name John Emerson Duke.

Fletcher (to furnish an arrow with a feather)
Cooper (a person who makes or repairs wooden casks or tubs)
Chandler (a person who make candles)
Sawyer (a person who saws wood. duh.)
Wainwright (a person who makes wagons)

I love the name Fletcher.

Some of the names I'm thinking of for my son are Damian, Ryder, Blake, Miles, Logan, and Brock. Any of those sound decent? We settled on the name Aiden a while back, but then one someone at a party said that everybody names their kids Aiden now. I looked it up an she was right. I want the name to be at least a little unique so he isn't like 1 of 7 Aidens in his class.
