Mason jar lid question * 1
    #25749324 -

I’m about to start Bod’s easy af oat tek. I have wide mouth quart mason jars.

My question is, what do I do with the jars lid?

Do I modify it by drilling a 1/4” hole in the center and fill it with polifill?
Or
Place lid upside down and screw it tight?
Or
Use it as intended?

I have looked for this answer longer then I’d like to admit and I’m still confused.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer!

Holes w/poly or tyvek, or unmodified inverted works (loosen ring in pc). If GE seems important to you, drill 'em. I use tyvek but whatever works 4U.

I now use plastic unmodded lids, they seem fine but we'll see

I used to use SFD, and still have them on some jars.

I am making Pastywhyte’s agar dishes that I will drop into the jars.
How many holes do you drill in the lid?
I have microspore tape. Can I place that over the hole or holes?

Cool, Pastyplates rock.
1 hole w/mp tape.
Search hole in side also, avoids paper towel.

Sorry, but I was asking about the mason jar metal lid.
How may holes should I drill, and can I cover those holes with mp tape?

Thanks for your quick responses!

Um, in metal lids you can drill ''Holes w/poly or tyvek, or unmodified inverted works (loosen ring in pc).''
I hate to be 'that guy' but you might try the search posts feature?

You mean his tek didn't make it clear?!

You can totally drill a 1/4" hole in the lid and stuff it tight with poly-fil and your jars will be just fine.

No I didn’t find Bod’s Tek before I committed  the cardinal sin by asking a mushroom growing question in the mushroom forums mushroom cultivation section.
His tek was very easy to understand and that’s what I plan on doing this weekend.

Literally rule #1.

Rules

1.  Please use the search posts function before asking a question.  Your question has already been asked and answered hundreds of times, so don't think you're going to get a better answer by asking it again.  In the 'search posts' link at the top of the page, you can select an individual user or the trusted cultivator group as a whole to filter results to come only from them. more on how to use the search engine effectively

Here's another,

4.  Do not bump your own thread for at least 24 hours.  It's not fair to the other posters to have your thread constantly bumped to the top.  Violators will have their thread deleted. Every post you make has an available edit button so you can avoid double posting.

Ten Four boss.
1) I used the search function, albiet poorly, with no results. I ran out of time to look for it and decided to ask a question . If answering my question was such a pain in your a@& please don’t strain your fragile fingers pushing buttons on your keyboard to help a fellow shroom enthusiasts navigate this forum to try to grow some meds for his severely depressed daughter. I have never been around mushrooms and have zero experience growing them. I have read several different articles stating the benefits of these gifts from nature, but I have no access to these meds so I am forced to try to figure out how to grow them on the fly. It’s like trying to learn a foreign language without a translator. Unfortunately I’m about as good on this phone as I am at growing shrooms.

2) I never bumped my own thread! No need to elaborate this point, it should be pretty simple. I asked a question and waited for a reply, which I received, and then replied.

3)At every opportunity I thanked everyone that took the time to answer my questions. I acknowledged that I screwed up and should of  done a better job searching for an answer rather then posting a question. However upon reading thru all the posts I did come across, I found a ton of duplicate noob questions that were routinely answered without someone feeling the need to continually remind them of how terrible it is to ask a basic question on this forum.

4) I have one more question for you to answer. Does treating a new member with a legitimate question with such disrespect reflect the collective unity these mushrooms tend to try and teach everyone that is lucky enough to enjoy?

5) Again I’m sorry for posting a question that has already been answered, I screwed up, it won’t happen again. Thanks for the lid tek links, it was very helpful!

I and others offered advice and you weren't getting it so I reluctantly suggested the search post. You are the one acting all hurt and defensive.

You've read articles about the impressive results psilocybin has had on people with depression. If you haven't yet, read Michael Pollan's How to Change Your Mind. I genuinely believe these mushrooms have a tremendous power to heal, but I also genuinely hope you fully understand that they are not a standard medicine you simply take and that in order for them to be successful, their application must be well understood and precisely executed.

People on this or any technical help forum can be impatient with newbies because there are thousands of them all asking the same questions and no matter how much the veterans do to help ease the burden of the continuous stream of repeat questions with stickies and FAQs, they just keep coming. I agree that you need to do a lot more research not because I'm lazy or don't want to help, but because I do. Growing mushrooms is absolutely not for those without time and patience, and if you don't have that to truly learn to do it right, then I really worry about the time and patience you have for learning how to administer the medicine to your daughter properly so that she can heal.

Psilocybin is a powerful tool and not something that can be rushed into at any stage with an expectation of good results

No one's ability to grow mushrooms has anything to do with administering psilocybin as a therapy.

You're right. No one here can or should give that advice. It's something OP needs to research elsewhere. There are professional therapists with PHDs, across the US at least, who provide these kinds of services. Underground, of course. Pollan's book outlines that. Finding them is a study in itself.

If this was just another "how do I do this" post I wouldn't be bringing this up.

As for the thread
There's a shitload of ways to do lids.

They need gas exchange and optionally a injection port.
You can do gas exchange with a number of different materials

I asked for help finding a lid tek! That’s all. It deteriorated into a elementary argument about breaking the rules. It never needed to get that far.

As far as my daughter is concerned I shouldn’t of brought that up, and I never would have if I’d known it would be used as an argument against me asking about a lid. I’m new to this site and new to shroom growing but I’m not new to my daughters situation. I have been working alongside a team of medical professionals specializing in psychological disorders for years. To think that I’m ignorantly dishing out illegal drugs to my daughter is insulting but you guys know me about as well as I know you so I won’t take it personal.

The reason I’m trying to figure out how to grow these meds is exactly because they are illegal and thus it has been left to me to take on the risk. Just because it’s illegal doesn’t make it wrong and or dangerous. There are real doctors who see the value in these drugs but are forced to abandon them in fear of having their license taken away or even their freedom.

I expected this community to understand that, and I’m sure most do, but the ones that don’t please don’t bother commenting on matters you are blatantly ignorant about.

Complaining about breaking the rules on this forum is kind of like the annoying little tattle tale at school always running to the teacher every time a kid says a cuss word.

Hey man i hear ya!!! Im in a similar boat. I have no experience with anything more than Google as far as the computer go. I literally got my first smart phone just so i could use this site. Mushrooms keep me from going off the deep end and 2 years ago i moved to a state where they dont grow like in CA where i was before. Last October i finally located some shrooms for sale and dude charged me 15$ a gram for em. So i bought 5 and they were so damn weak that i dont even count it as a trip. The next day i decided i would try growing again. I once did the pf tek 20 years or so ago (sort of) with those kits that you could get at a head shop. I knew the laws had changed so i googled how to grow shrooms and found this site. I agree its hard to navigate and the search feature is not perfect as well as there are so many diffrent ways to do the same thing. My advice would be to pick any tek and just follow it each step. I did polyfill lids cause it was easy and made sense in my head. Also ask questions in getting started if you think its a basic question. There is not as much traffic but people will help you find the solution without being dicks. For real tho good luck i hope everything works out.

I second that! I adapted my own personal preferences but I learned the most from bods teks.

And about the rule thing. Of course we gotta have rules, but it is really fucking annoying when noobs quote rules. After all, most of us are breaking the law. But u wanna follow rules on here to the T? Makes no damn sense.

Same mentality as jail snitches. U can break the law but snitch on other people :badtrip:

I’m liking plastic lids with poly.  Easy, simple and effective.

Why are you talking about lids? We are discussing posting rules. Please stay on topic. Thanks:grin:
I think I’ll try some of those one piece plastic lids with my next batch.

Forgive my ignorance. But with non mods do u just leave them unscrewed a little bit? And do u notice any drying doing it this way?

No not at all. I turn the jar a quarter turn off of just snug and they do fine. Have had LC colonize in as little as 4 days. Not a problem at all. G2G on average of 7 days depending on how many I expand it too.
