White strands poping tru the caseing
    #25746862 -

White strands poping tru the casing , looks snowy but yet not fully colonised , is this a case of Stroma ?
, it based on farm manure with a layer of vermiculite on top , I m not sure it looks all right , as I can the white stuff don t allow the water to penetrate it , other than that it looks white. Am I doing anything wrong ?

You’re fine.  That’s just mycelium spreading through the sub.  Rock on.

Couldn’t t sleep last night after I discovered the term overlay, I have tree boxes and only two of them look like this, I don t know because the information is misleading me, is there any thing I should do next ? Thanks for the fast answer

Nope.  Be patient and keep your environmental conditions on point.  It’ll pin.

Okies , well than, shall i put it into fruiting conditions ? I don’t really know what to do next but it looks like overlay from what I can see , even the water drops are sticking on top of it , it is still in incubation, but it is for a week or so, been reading more on the forum and still don t know if I should let it do this all over the caseing ? Should I patch it with some sterilised coco ? Should I scrape that layer? Should I let it more in incubation ? Who’s treads are pure white and they open at the ends like a puffy micelium bubble , thanks

Sure, you can flip the lid over (that’s all you do to put them in fruiting conditions). You don’t need to do anything else. What you are seeing is perfectly healthy mycelium. Just be patient and keep your environmental conditions right.

As I can see it s getting more and more full of the mycelium, will I get an more even pin set if its fully colonised ? I am a reader I like reading posts and no I didn t touch the mycelium yet . This being go first bulk experience and from 3 tubs only 2 of them have this characteristics , the other one looks like in the forum pictures. Thanks guys can t wait to see them growing.

Hi yea, turned the lid around and mist it can it , put the lid upside down and dried so much , then are Mazatapec and I think @ 20’celsius they just don t work , the caseing gets dry and no knotting formes, so now I cling filmed it and made 2 holes around 2cm square on the film and covered them with Micropore tape. I moved the boxes closer to the wall heater where there s about 28’ to 30’ Celsius. How big should be the holes for air exchange? Because unfortunately my tub with the lid upside down dries the caseing to much and where mycelium is on the caseing at the surface shrinks and looks not proper
Thanks

The water the mushrooms are going to use to grow is contained in the substrate, it doesn’t come from the misting.  Your substrate is shrinking because the mycelium is taking this water in and growing, consolidating the sub.  That is perfectly normal, not an effect of simply flipping the lid over.

Okies, shall I take the cling film down and put the lid the other way around ? Still if the substrate is drying and shrinking I still think it s not enough humidity inside , now it looks like this only with the small holes and the temperature around 28 degrees, with the lid upside down and around 20 degrees all the walls of the tub dry, everything dryes really fast, I am referring to what is on the top of the caseing layer, it just doesn’t t look like what I am seeying here on the forum
thanks for the fast answer!!!

Yes, it is definitely drying out.  That’s what I’m attempting to say.  You know that all chemical equations balance, correct?  Everything you put into a closed system will remain in the closed system, no matter how many transformations it goes through inside.

Your mono is no different.  You packed it full of decomposing organic material, soaked to a carrying capacity, and introduced a singular living organism that is going to use the physical structure of the manure to anchor itself, the nutrients gleaned from the grain source, and the water contained in the high surface area of what is essentially an O3 layer in soil science, as it colonizes and grows it’s own physical structure.

It’s why potting soil in your houseplant draws up.  Resources are taken from the soil and converted into physical growth by the plant.

Your mono had water, soil structure, and nutrient availability.  The volume of space those things took up was eliminated, and the mycelium is in the process of converting those groceries into mushroom tissue.  If you grow a lb of mushrooms, those are 90% water.  Gallon weighs 8 lbs, so when you harvest them, you’re removing almost a pint of water from the system, and the volume it took up.

People dunk subs after their flushes so that the organic material inside the sub can rehydrate and they can get bigger flushes, because so much water is lost from the system during colonization and fruiting.

Such a good read!
Well not much more to say then thank you very much! It iluminated my mind. I will put all 3 of them to fruit, and I will try misting them less, do you think it s a good idea to dunk them ? Or should I mist it till it’s rehidrated , I’ve seen people doing the dunk after the first flush, on the other side some people say that it will fruit when it s fully colonised.
, I ll put them in fruiting conditions by turning the lids upside down and just wait and maybe mist the walls of the tubs, I ve been reading a lot of twos and I think that this is what makes me confused. As I seen an unmodified tub tek and no misting no fanning required but also I ve read that some people incubate the bulk till knots form and after they move it to fruiting conditions. Should I still mist them or should I let them dry till they form the knots ? Thanks

I think patience is key.  Just let them do their thing for the first flush, and see what it looks like from there.  Until you remove mushrooms from the system, the amount of water “lost” is going to be fairly minimal.

Patience and patience ...
really bad at it, I created space for air exchange and yes this is what happened after last night,
some of the micelium from the casing is blueish (not all of it ) just here and there  , maybe gray green, it started drying tho and I think it was because of some water drops that were laying on the mycelium hopefully it s gonna be alright, can t wait to eat the first one, on the other side I made one more tub that is going great, this one will have better conditions and yea thanks for all the help!!!
Best regards

To me, it looks like damage to the existing mycelium, and not an outside contam.  That would mean you’re still in the clear, just keep your mitts off the tubs until they flush.

But bod has vastly more experience, you might want to wait until/if he offers you guidance.

I ve never touched the caseing but I remember drops of water on the mycelium there , I also remember that since other parts of the caseing were wet and that one dry I just didn t wanna mist it all, now I misted only that part with a drop of water, I hope is just dry and it s going to recover ,
Thanks

It won’t recover if you keep messing with it.  Leave it alone.

I’m sorry , I just feel dumb now, I just let it where it is and no mist, no fan, just as it is?
