Has weed lost its status as an illegal drug?

Given that 25% of the US population now has access to legal, recreational weed, and more than half of the country lives in a state that has decriminalized or legalized. Can we really talk about weed as "an illicit drug" anymore? Sure its still illegal in many states but with so many states making it legal now its hard to really talk about it as an illegal drug. If so, what should it be considered?

At this point, I don't think possession alone would land most people in jail. It depends on your prior record, but I can't see a judge sending a first time offender to prison over weed.

You think wrong.  Not even talking about significant weight or amounts here, or including the addition of commonly associated paraphernalia charges.  Some counties in the southeastern states don't tolerate any amount of weed and will lock you up for a couple grams.

If you look at the scheduling yes. But legally, it is never actually treated the same. Marijuana possession is not a felony whereas possession of meth and heroin is.

Also guys, I live in the southeast. weed for the most part is common and socially accepted here too. My state has pretty backward laws when it comes to marijuana but socially nobody gives a shit and a lot of the cops are starting to not give a shit either. I wouldn't start toking up right in front of them but as long as you keep it in your own house or apartment, your chances of getting caught are practically zero.

Civilized places are decriminalized or legal. Places where they still lock people up for weed are mostly shitholes. Where I live posession is a small fine that is always dismissed in court. The country will get there soon enough and have total legalization. The south will take forever, those people still have slavery and legally protected gay bashing, so its not like they're really part of American anyway. More like saudi arabia or uganda.

When I was in my teens and 20's, even 30's, if we smoked out in an apartment we had to burn mega incense due to it being perfectly legal for any cop on or off duty to kick in the door and arrest people if they even smelled cannabis! I was so used to paranoia when smoking for many many years.:sad:

A friend of mine from DFW who grew up there like me stated that Colorado is the whitest place he's ever seen, and he was here in 2017. He actually said "there's no black people here", lol. CO is more than 90%  "white" according to wiki.:shrug: Texas 80-90%.

I live in one, though New Orleans itself is very tolerant of possession.  You possess outside of New Orleans at your own risk, though, as in some parishes it still carries a strict penalty.

Yeah, I call it Looser-ianna. I lived and worked in New Orleans back in 2001, couldn't wait to get out after one year. I would go visit again though, but only late fall, winter, or early spring, fuck going in the dead of summer, it's miserable!
