Turkey Baster for making slants?

So I'm finally going to rest a few strains by making my first slants.
I was looking for a tiny funnel to fit my test tubes, when a shop assistant suggested a turkey baster.
Stainless steel baster with a needle attachment. The tip is 8mm or so and the needle is 4mm diameter.
Any feedback is appreciated. 😎

I use a plastic one but it worked good for me, I just made my first slants last week.

The Turkey baster worked better than a syringe, I tried both. But do what works best for you.

I always just carefully poured from a media bottle right into them. I maybe had to wipe a couple clean in my entire time of slant making. If you think that's impossible do agar in a liquor bottle and use a stainless bar type pour spout. Put the empty tube over the tip then flip/tilt so there's no opportunity to spill at all

I just PC my slants in a test tube rack with agar and wood already in the test tubes. You don't have to worry about pouring sterilized agar which IMO is a needless step which increases contamination risks.

I don't think any one is daft enough to try to pour it into tubes after sterilization.

I once saw a girl put her finger in a bottle of 10M H3PO4 when she knew what it was. I don't put anything past people anymore.

I used a Marinade Injector, lol. Yep, whatever works. It legitimized the purchase of my new dehydrator jerky maker.

While we're at it, why are lids necessary when you wrap in parafilm?
Can't I wrap the top directly in parafilm (in my case GLAD wrap)?

Lids make things safer when working with them. The last thing you want is to have your tubes sitting open, even if in a SAB or in front of a flowhood.

So the baster worked pretty well, except when I tipped it backward and the remaining air heated, expanded and squirted molten agar across the kitchen...
I preheated the baster to ensure that the agar remained liquid.
I then screwed the lids on tight and proceeded to pop half of the tubes in the pressure cooker. (read a post suggesting that sealed TT's that don't break aren't properly sterilised??)
I should have read a bit further in other peoples tek's, though it wouldn't have been as spectacular.
I am looking to purchase some more suitable containers (16mm screw cap TT's are hard). Looking at 27.5mm x 75mm borosilicate flat bottom vials with screw tops.
Any Suggestions?

So I bought the aforementioned vials, which are awesome.
Made a rack from plywood, and made my first round of 'proper' slants.
The baster works well once you get used to it.

Unless you are pouring into tiny vials, I think the baster would not only get in the way but could possibly contaminate more than wiping any clumsy spills with a clean alcohol soaked cotton.
Any time I used syringe I got more contams... actually even with a new syringe and needle in my sterilized SAB wearing gloves to transfer sterile agar to new pastylike plates, I got contams in many more of them then any time I poured.
Pouring is about the easiest and most steril way, and with practice, we can better our techniques for equal and even plate pours.

I use plastic vials, centrifuge vials I believe. They hold 50ml. Put them in pints jars fill each jar with water just below the level of the agar. Leave vial lids cracked open, cover with foil and PC. I personally mix my agar in a big measuring cup, super easy to pour.

Oh dear,
To clarify, I sterilize AFTER squirting.
These 30mm vials are awesome. The flat bottom means I can line them up with lids off, and clearly see how much agar is in each. The baster is great, and allows good control, with very few drips after a little practice.
I made a plywood rack (a bit rough as I was in a hurry) in a way that it didn't need fixings so they don't rust.
I also poured the 20 agar plates you can see in the background. These will be PC'd today.

I disagree. Pouring is easy and sterile. Not pouring is easier, quicker, more consistent and more sterile. You pour hot, so you don't have to wait and accidentally miss the perfect pour time, and they level instantly. You can line them up open, and pour quickly and ensure the same amount in each. I made some wire racks for stacking in the PC, wrapped in foil. As they are stacked 12 high, only the top few suffer from condensate.
If you have PP petri, you need to pour, I prefer glass, they take more effort cleaning, yet are so much easier to prepare.

I used one of those 5-10ml plastic children's medicine syringes both for doing plates and slants This way I can get exactly the same amount in each plate.
