Master grain storage

Searching all over the forums, can't find a succinct answer.

How long can a master grain jar be stored in the fridge?
Should I restore it before re-use by transferring some grains to colonize a fresh jar and then using that jar to expand, after the master has been in the fridge for X months?
Should I just use up my masters and transfer a kernel or two to agar for storage and abandon the whole idea of storing master jars in the fridge?

They can be stored up to several years in the fridge. Warm them at room temperature for three to five days before spawning.

I would aim for less than 3-6 months. Agar dishes last 6-12 months. Slants 6-24 months. There's extreme cases of course.

Some species will fare well ass grain jars in a fridge like oysters may last years. Cubensis probably not.

RogerRabbit seems to have had no problem with using several-year-old grain jars. And in his post he says grain jars are better than slants for storage except they take up too much space, so I would not be surprised if the usual shelf life of grains is even higher than that of agar.
