Headlight replacement on a Cadillac CTS

Does anyone by chance know how to change a headlight bulb on a CTS without taking off the entire front bumper? The dealer quoted $350 to simply change a headlight bulb, and I’ll be damned if I’m going to pay that when the bulb only costs $15 at Autozone.

I usually go to youtube for DIY stuff.
My car you need to remove the fender just to change the bulb

Yeah, I’ve done the YouTube thing and they all take off the front bumper, the grill, and the shroud that lines the wheel well. Then you unbolt the housing from the frame, remove it, and open the back cover to access the bulb. 1.5 hour job to get to this point.
Swap that bulb out, and put it all back together.
Almost 4 hours to change a headlight bulb. Smh
Think management was throwing their service departments a bone with this one?

Gotta be something. Lights are the one thing most people used to know how to change themselves, now they're conveniently becoming inaccessible. I cant justify paying more for a bulb swap than a brake job

I'm not sure about the cts but lots of gms are like that. I used to avoid removing bumpers by removing the front of the splash pan under the front of the car and reach up through the opened section of splash pan to gain access to the head light. That's the quicker way.

You have to remove the bumper to pull the headlight assembly out, and the headlight assembly must be removed to change any bulb in it because it has a plastic plate screwed into the back that forms the housing for each bulb.
It was a serious pain in the ass, y’all. Lemme tell ya.
That assembly is bolted to the frame in three places, the wheel well, the engine compartment, and a bolt that has the post literally touching the plastic of the bumper when the bumper is attached.
It was designed with taking the bumper off in mind.

I'm glad you were able to get out of getting fucked by gm. They do the stupidest shit ever. Did you change them both while you had the bumper off? That would save you time cause the other one is likely close behind.

I did change them both out. $34.50 and 1.5 hrs of labor got me two new headlights, as opposed to the $350 quote for just one light. The best part? I even managed to avoid busting a knuckle while doing it.
